Fabia window regulator update.

Glass held up out of the way with gorilla tape.

Old regulator panel drilled out and wiring moved over to the new regulator panel. Need to decide how to refix it to the door - you might be able to make out on this low-res image that there’s a lip on the edge where all the rivets were (my crappy drilling), so maybe something like these (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233905756495) or possibly a few suitably sized, domestic rawlplugs and self tapping screws might do it? The panel weighs very little.


Next step - reattach the window motor & enough of the wiring to make sure the mechanism actually works; try and refit the indicator button (pointing upwards on the left hand side in the shot below) which popped off when I did a test refit (not that I really need it).

Those are fancy spire clips, you can get much cheaper ones for self-tapping (or anything the right size really) screws e.g.:

I posted a link to even cheaper versions on page 1170 but I am not certain these would work? When these are designed to be used there is always a suitable flat section that allows them to clip in place (and stay there), with ze aperture in ze clip lining up with ze 'ole in ze panel..... which Jon might have here, but..... <shrugs>

I'd be tempted to try some short, fat self-tappers that can just create a hold in the 'oles that are there.

Aside : I lost a speed-clip / spire-clip from the headlight pod of the 944S2 back around 2003 (?) due to gravel driveway - before I knew they were caller speed-clips / spire-clips. I got a replacement from the local Porsche stealership. Parts guy advised it was the cheapest item he'd ever sold in the 8 years he'd worked there. From memory it was around £1.75 for one, but it was in a pretty Porsche-branded poly bag.....

Possibly. Feels trickier to get the size right, now I've messed some of the holes up a bit from the old rivets. Might give some of these a go - they could also be what I need to be able to refit my sump guard mounting bracket.

I was going to suggest rivnuts as well. A lot more substantial and it'll make it much easier to remove again next time it fails

But you'll need to invest in a tool, very similar to a rivet gun. You can fit them using a nut, bolt & washers but it's a bit of a faff if you're doing several of them. Proper tool makes it much quicker.

I've only got 10 to do - plus the sump guard bracket if it goes well - how annoying can it be to do manually! (I've watched one of the videos on that method)
edit: and I'll be ready for when the driver's side fails as well.

Half a car respray later, and a new set of wheels, the Mustang is looking a lot tidier. Whole front end, bonnet, wings, drivers door and blend to rear quarter panel.

Had the Shelby Razors fitted at the weekend (love them), but the fitter said I needed spigot rings. The manufacturer said I didn't need them as they're made for the car..

A bit of forum digging doesn't really help. Lots of people think that spigots aren't needed, but some do.

The wheels bore is 72.6 and the hub bore is 70.5. so I've bought 2.1mm spigot rings, as it seems the obvious thing to do?

Coilovers next and whiteline ARB kit. Then I'm done this year, as the costs are mounting up a bit too much!

I'll get some better pics and a video when I have the chance. It's loud.

My mood would be slightly better if whilst doing this seemingly trivial task the mechanism hadn’t popped off the back of the carrier and all the cabling and springs unwound themselves. Balls.

That’s very thin - the rings will only be just over 1mm thick. I’d still use them because if they aren’t fitted centrally there will be a vibration.

Probably not totally essential - the wheel bolts should pull the wheel to the centre - but they shouldn't make things any worse.

All these years later and I'm still DIW when posting photos

Ticked over 63k on the Up! after a trip over to Borth over the weekend. Once again, car continues to be faultless. 65mpg average too, so cheap.

Some great roads, and suprisingly very, very quiet, couldn't help thinking how great it would have been in something more dynamic. Alas, car sick passengers meant even the Up had to be driven gently.

Tyres (F1's) still have some life left in them, but they're 5 years and 50k miles old, so probably due a replacement. I don't really see the point of paying for PS5s or Eagle F1's just for commuting. So was thinking about Uniroyal Rainsport 5, at £80/corner they're significantly cheaper than the £120-130/corner for the high performance equivalents.

Any opinions on Rainsport's or other alternatives?

I’ve one particular set of wheels for The Compact that should really have spigot rings, but they don’t, and it’s fine.

But get them anyway. If nothing else they help centre the wheel while you put the bolts in.

If you are on a phone, you need to select “copy post link” as opposed to “copy link”. It then takes the jpeg address rather than the Imgur link.

Zoe didn't charge overnight, displaying the "check vehicle plug" message again. It did it last year, but has been fine without a single issue since late August, so another eight months isn't too bad.

Will call the auto electrician and get it booked in.
