Seems it's more bye bye Corbyn - he won't fight another election and will stand down once a replacement is found.

Good. Fucking. Riddance.

Abbott’s last tweet seems to suggest she might be sticking around. If Corbyn is 60% of the reason why labour have been heavily defeated then she’s the other 40%. I think it really is that simple, I don’t think people saw past the prospect of those two being in power against the benefits of their manifesto to think they were worth the vote.

Labour have five years to turn it around, I can’t see Boris calling an election any earlier if he gains the majority that he’s projected to gain.

Declared already, looks like the exit polls were right in predicting a Conservative majority by a decent margin, just need to see how big it is now.

Something told the Conservatives to go for a GE now and not do a deal with Farage despite what the opinion polls said; a hung parliament. I wonder what that was or if it was just a complete gamble that paid off far more than they hoped?

South Holland and The Deepings

Conservatives - 37338
Labour - 6500
Lib Dem - 3225
Green - 1613
IND - 503

John Hayes appears to be well regarded still and he did some campaigning around the town so it seems to have paid off. I saw many more labour supporter signs up when out and about though, only a few for John Hayes.

The next 6 months will be very telling but I’m especially glad that Corbyn is out of the picture, now we just need a slow steady build back up of labour so they gain some ground in the next 5 years so it’s not such a black or white choice.

Why did you think that at 1am? I went to bed shortly after midnight because it was clear from the first 5 declared seats that the exit poll was pretty accurate.

Because the swing was far lower than that being suggested by the exit poll. What that lead to in reality was, rather than over-egging the size of the majority, it under-egged Labour’s performance by 12 or so seats.

So, panning for gold in this sewage farm:

- It wasn’t a Tory surge: CON only picked up 1% of the vote share, so it’s not like we have a whole new generation of stupid, old, racist voters

- It WAS a Labour exodus: LD gained more of the vote share than any other party, Jo Swinson must be pleas...oh, wait. The Brexit Company Limited did the real damage in the Labour-voting north.

- At least it’ll get Corbyn out and we might end up with a decent opposition, assuming they don’t fuck it up.

The whole point of the exit poll methodology now is that it isn’t just based on swing. Although I do miss Peter Snow and his cardboard swingometer and brown shoes.

Not even Raab losing his seat as solace; he would have done if the Lib Dem’s had voted tactically for Labour. Overall vote appears to be 55/45 in favour of remain, so Dom has worked his magic again to get this result.

It isn’t based on swing, but it predicts swing and the swing from LAB to CON was less than predicted.

Well we retained our brown nosing Tory! Yippee. :( What a fucking disaster. It astounds me, if it is true, that people voted against Corbyn specifically as there is no doubt the last few years of smears and outright lies has influenced many people.

Would the current manifesto of Labour with Kier Starmer for instance have done better?

People got hung up on Diane Abbott for mixing up her numbers in one interview, compare that to the many many times Tries lied, made up figures, made up stories on Facebook etc etc you have to say that the MSM had a huge hand in this.

I guess MSM will now have a crack at Scotland again, the old "your pension ain't safe" etc etc

Amusing that the Daily Mail is reporting that the Conservatives have a “majority of 80” rather than 80 seats more than Labour.

Lib Dems got a big up swing in my constituency 25% increase in vote share. Sadly not enough to change the result.

It’s a lot more than 80 - it’s 364 vs. 203 right now. Are you new at maths ?

No, but the advantage CON have over the rest of the house isn’t 80.
