They don't do any silver cars at the moment and I can't see SJ buying anything other than a Quadrifoglio so we'll need to up the wine supply to a boatload.

Had a text from my dad saying the automatic highbeams on the XJ work now so that Autel turned out to be very handy. It just needed a software recalibration at the weekend which in itself took far longer than it should. During the daytime you need to drive at above 40 mph for 5 minutes, if you drop below 20 mph it fails.

Luckily it didn’t explode.

But that took 3 failed attempts before we gave up and ended up going down the motorway, stopping at a services to start the calibration, then returning back but took an hour all in all. Must be a massive PITA and rack up quite a labour charge if you take it to a dealer in London.

After all that the car has ZERO error codes. A small miracle.

Speaking of error codes the ever ungrateful 6 series has thrown a new one. CEL came on and this time it’s the fuel breather pipe

I don't know if it's Saharan dust but there was a good bit of that sort of muck on the car so it got a wash. I'm glad it did, now I can see where some cunt has hit the back bumper. It looks like a towbar impact, right in the centre. Not happy.

That’s rather lovely. I notice that it was registered in 1986 but the PDI check wasn’t carried out until 1988; they didn’t sell very quickly when new, obviously

Fleet update:

The Civic TypeR EP3 was taken away by its new owner today, many will likely remember him from earlier EVO forums - MattH. He's gonna smoke about in it for a while, with the intention of seeing if the K20 will go into his 306Gti. Cheaper than tuning his rare Pug motor to similar levels, and likely more reliable/tunable from that starting point too.

Civic just cost me starter motor, new alternator, aux belt, two sensors, and the sills are looking soft, so it was either sell on or go resto route. I CBA with resto.

So I'm down to no ICE cars currently, just the milk float leaser while I consider options.

He's good yeah, excited to try Japanese while he pulls the 306 apart and preps the car for the engine swap. He, Ben and I keep in touch. He's still got the Octavia vRS family wagon too.

It's looking really classy with a bit of bin liner taped over the window at the moment.

Mustang has been dropped off at a garage in High Wycombe who are going to give the bodywork a proper tidy up.

It has a badly corroded bonnet (common issue on all of them from that era) which is getting repaired. Plus a front end respray and various little dents taken out.

Wheels arrive in a week or so. Will look a lot smarter with these bits done

911 is in with Porsche to have a look at the startup clatter - typically now its with them it is not doing it.

Other 911 news, I changed the oil yesterday. Mannol Classic 10w40 semi-syn, eight litres from a 20 litre tub bought on promo, and a Febi filter also bought on promo, comes to about £25 of materials. Nice cheap car

I really need to do the coolant too but with the engine at the back and the rads at the front and a lot of pipework in-between it takes a rather shocking 22½ litres and by all accounts can be a right git to bleed properly. Needs a day when I'm in a good mood.
