Aren't QuikFit mobile formally of Tyres on the Drive? I used them in the past, usually very good. To be honest with tyre fitters my usual concern is just them getting the wheels off and refitting, rather than the actual tyre fitment.

I was always more impressed with their portable air jacks than anything!

You may be right - there are other tyre retailers who claim to do mobile fitting but only Kwik Fit would to our address. I used Tyres On The Drive plenty of times and they were great.

No need for any jacking up or wheel removal/refitting so the fitter should be very happy with this job. I hope he is because I'm going to be asking him what he thinks about the second valve hole; I have some blanks but the solid side looks like it should be the outside so I'm not convinced they'll be fully air tight with only a nut, washer and rubber doughnut on the inside.

The Kwik Fit chap was excellent. Took great care, balanced the wheels thoroughly and reinforced my concern that the plugs for the second hole would leak, so I put a second short valve in.



Goodyear F1 Assymetric 6s in the lowest load rating I could find, 91. I’m debating whether to fit them before the lowering springs are fitted - I’ll probably wait.

Look good. I suspect there will be some obscure point in the future where you’ll be like “hmm - it was actually quite useful having a second valve there….”

You did better than I with Kwik Fit mobile then - 2 tyres to fit and 2 wheels successfully damaged. Had to get them the pay for the repair.

If the valve cap on one gets stuck I can use the other, perhaps?

The fitter was great. I chatted to him about his 300+bhp, stripped and caged 1-tonne Corolla T-Sport and his E46 3-series. A real enthusiast.

I imagine having a lawyer watching over their shoulder would be sufficient motivation to do their job properly!

MINI all done. Drives a lot better now which is a HUGE relief as I’d be having a meltdown right now if it was still rattling after all that I think it might actually have been the top mounts rather than the wishbones, the top mounts were the only parts with any noticeable play in them. The wishbone bushes were a bit soft but weren’t totally shot. Same with all the ball joints, they moved easily unlike brand new ones, but no obvious play. All new now, all good

I’m taking it for a celebratory trip to Waitrose to buy food & drink for dinner. Something nice for a change.

Oil and oil filter changed on the Mondeo estate bike wagon. I had to buy a new tool to remove the oil filter housing cap to replace the paper filter as it's buried down the front of the engine.

The far end in the picture fits on the top of the filter housing and you use a half inch drive in the other end.

I've switched off the OEM bridgestones on the 128 to these. very good tyre. Traction in the wet is excellent. Which on a reasonably powerful FWD hatch is a great test.

A2 derv; morning - got alignment done, nice straight steering wheel, far fewer bump steer wobble shenanigans (it needs new dampers but I don't want to scrub the tyres out in the meantime). Afternoon - hit three potholes of the variety (well, one on t'left, one on t'right, and the third was more of a sinkhole/muchos road subsidence) The first two were on junctions so travelling slowly, the third a 20 zone shortly after I'd let someone pass so I wasn't even up to the speed limit.

Had new handbrake cables fitted to A2 derv last week, friendly mechanic said it was a ballache and he used both pit and lift to get them done - glad I didn't try it at home. Anyhoo, one side hadn't been releasing properly so I've a brake shoe similarly fecked (he did the job late on a Saturday, nowhere open to get parts).
