Alien Romulus

Meh. I went in expecting good things....and while they did a fantastic job of the effects, it's follows the standard Alien storyline so there's no suprises, it's not scary or tense at all (just a couple of jump scares) and parts of it just make no sense at all.

It's not a patch on the originals for me. 6/10, scored mainly because I thought they nailed the visuals.

yeah, massively hammed up acting and a bit of plot that tries to be cleverer than it is, but mainly blowing things up. i didn’t hate it, but i’ll never watch it again.

OK, this is film related, but it's also confirmation of how much I love my wife

She's in Scotland at the moment visiting some friends, yesterday they visited Doune Castle, where they filmed 'that' scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail

She sent me a photo and admitted that she did a little pump in tribute

I asked her (setting up the punchline) if she did it near other people

She replied that she'd done it "in their general direction"

Every day she makes me proud!

Had avoided most spoilers and thoroughly enjoyed it. Completely mental and the better for it. Excellent baddie too!

Having been deprived of a decent Aliens sequel for four decades I had extremely tentative hopes. But I enjoyed it quite a lot. I would say the Alien Isolation game had an enormous influence on the movie and is the better for it.

If Alien and Aliens are 10/10 then Romulus gets a 7 to edge out Resurrection as the third best of the franchise.

Arthur The King

About an adventure athlete and his team on some kind of personal journey. I switched off around 45 mins into the film because of the excessive whooping every time there was a team scene. It was basic and I've seen deeper characters on Dear Deidre.

The Union

Brains out action comedy with Marc Warlburg and Halle Berry . She plays a spy in a secretive agency who needs a non spy, her high school sweetheart, for a mission.

It’s OKish. It is what it is really. Some laughs, some action sequences etc.

But I noticed something right at the start and then I couldn’t unsee it…

Halle Berry looks fantastic for 58… but she runs like a 58 year old women. She’s supposed to be a super spy but runs like a women with Osteoporosis who’s beginning to struggle with her hips

In Bruges

Yes, it has really taken 16yrs for mrs mik and I to watch it . And it only really happened now 'cos of Banshees.....

Enjoyed. Some real belly laughs. Farrell and Gleeson were as strong as everyone would expect, but I was genuinely surprised at how convincing Ralph Fiennes was as nutjob bossman Harry. Not quite up there with Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast, but a long way from rubbish.

8.5 misty fairytales out of 10.

Also, Bruges at night really looks like it does in the movie, stunning place for a grown up weekend away.

Dinny, the only way you can atone for this is to go to Bruges and watch it there.

Or persuade your family that it is indeed a Christmas movie so get them all to watch it with you in December.

With all the spowart floating around at the moment I though our family movies should be on theme this weekend.

Next goal wins the intro by a tripped out Taiki was not a good start, but once it got going it was a lot of fun.

Cool Runnings this was a staple of school video afternoons waaaaay back and is still very enjoyable.

Watched Sully last night, the Tom Hanks movie directed by Clint Eastwood about the Hudson river emergency landing.

It's a surprisingly dramatic tear-jerker, following the immediate aftermath of the crash and the investigation into the actions taken by the pilots to determine the validity of their actions. Hanks pulled a great performance as Sully and the whole post-crash investigation story had me riveted. Also it's only a 90 minute film, which I love, perfect for a weeknight movie slot.
