Nah, you probably did it the right way round imo. Putting a drop cloth on the floor to protect it is less annoying than loads of dust getting caught in the paint while it dries

Yep, the garage has quite a high pitched roof, and being a new build we're not blessed with loads of storage in the house, so we got ply and a ladder put in the roof of the garage. It's been a good decision in terms of storing stuff.

Those ones weren't cheap, but also it's quite a long garage so a decent area to cover. Those were Duramat, £650 all in with ramps for the front. I have to say, apart from messing up a couple of cuts, it was probably one of the most satisfying DIY jobs I've done.

Garage looks excellent Duncs. You could build a small school in there. Might have to, I guess.

Our garage has swifts nesting in it. They haven't pooed a lot yet but I imagine the mess will come when the fledglings leave the nests.

Duncs- that garage is a dream, very nice! I bet that door makes you very happy I've always wanted one, any pics with it down? What floor sealer did you use?

My new house project - after the ayauyuasca retreat for petrol heads that was N24, sell the house, downsize and buy a Caterham again (has anyone downsized as a mid life crisis to buy a nice car or is it a terrible idea? )

It does a lovely ripple from bottom to top when it reaches the floor too.

I used Bostik Concrete Sealer, went down really well actually. It probably wasn't necessary as the floor tiles would probably lock in the dust a fair bit, but I decided to go belt and braces since I had cleared it and cleaned out all the dust.

Looks lovely now Duncs, can see why you're really happy with that! I see you've gone for exactly the same tiles as I fitted in my garage Decent LED batten lights will make a big difference too.

Main motivation for me was getting the boy's drum.kit in there instead of his bedroom. Wife now has a cross trainer in there as well. Currently getting really frustrated though waiting for redelivery of some Draper garage units so I can finally start storing things properly, thus freeing up my big shed for starting up brewing again!

More recently we've had the last part of the house decorated - the hall, stairs and landing - finally removing any remaining traces of the previous owners. Only 12yrs after we moved in...



New wallpaper, vinyl flooring over the bare (stained) floorboards, wood panelling and skirting etc painted and new carpet on the stairs. Also had a proper decent loft ladder put in.

Yep, great minds!

Thinking of swapping the switch for a switch + movement sensor unit, should be great in combination with the new LED light. Some of these things are cheap but make a surprisingly big difference.

I am ashamed to admit I do also have some car wall art to put up once the walls are finished, but we're all nerds here right!?

I've just put a Halfords Advanced tool cabinet in there too. Given I'm a fan of Halfords advanced stuff, I'm not blown away by it actually, but it looks smart enough. I bought one of their empty tray things to go in some of the draws, and fill with my HA socket set, but it isn't a snug fit and just kinda floats around in there. Plus (and I should've checked), but the max they have is 120 piece and I clearly have a bigger set, so not everything has a home. I see there are aftermarket options, so may look into that.

Also, I wanted some of those low fronted storage boxes for the shelves, but I am shocked at how expensive they are for a bit of plastic!

@Marv can we expect a house project update from you on this thread?

That... is very satisfying

After ordering some units for the garage back in April, I've finally received some of them! Just waiting on a tall cabinet unit. Will post pics once it's all together - it's only partially put together at the moment as the tall cabinet needs to go in first

Been a mad few weeks. I think we started decluttering this place and readying it for sale a few months ago now. After much painting, tiling and cleaning, it went on the market two weeks ago and we accepted an offer for it on Friday.

It's obviously not finalised yet, but that "limbo" of not having a sale is very stressful for a control freak like me. Was also another eye opening experience in terms of who comes to look at a house and do the equivalent of "tyre kicking" on it with perhaps no intention to, you know, actually buy it.

Looking to move the first week in August and trying to get the planning permission in asap for a conversion of the barn attached to it and also the "horse house" in a field. Have decided to make our own hay next year, so need to start looking for a tractor and baler to buy. What could possibly go wrong...

Have you done any research into what baler you need? Kind of in the same predicament here, farmer next door retired now and renting his fields out to an absolute cunt. Thinking of just buying a small baler and making it myself and just give what’s extra to an animal sanctuary or something.

No, just started looking. My wife was saying she'd rather have small round bales than the common large round ones, but also need to work out what size of tractor to get. Her folks used to make their own hay but stopped about 5 years ago when they got rid of a lot of the livestock so also sold everything. Seems mad not to do it with her having a couple of horses and some spare fields which could be used.

That's a nice idea to donate what you don't need yourself.

I don’t think I’ve seen small round. I go for the small conventional rectangle ones because they can be manhandled and stacked by hand but according to what I’ve read online you can get 100 of those per acre twice a year and half that if in drought. My goats only eat 100 per year so I’ll have a vast excess with nowhere to store them.
