I know what you mean and agree, however the mx5 is artificially rolly, which is intended and said to be part of the character but Im just not a fan of it.

Don't know why I thought you had a first generation Mustang in white all along. Either I'm mixed up with someone else or just even more confused than usual

Cheers Mik. These rims will be coming off and getting replaced with the Shelby Razors. They're still chrome/black and identical size/offset to the current set.

That picture is the good side. The wheels on the other side are atrocious

They’re a good choice Alex, not as obvious as Torq Thrusts but a similar look.

I found a picture - I think they look great. Everyone has Bullitt or Torq thrusts.

Once I've got the wheels on and front end tidied up, it'll look so much better and I'll be a lot happier with it.

You can't see it in the picture, but the bonnet is bad. Literally corroded along the entire edge. A genuine case of TADTS.

I've ordered a set of wheel nuts from Eliseparts because they match the MX5's specs and have a smaller 17mm hex nut on. Apparently standard MX5 wheelnuts don't fit most aftermarket wheels - or even the Rays alloys fitted to the 30th Anniversary car - because they're 21mm and you can't get a socket onto them

21mm nuts seems a bit excessive for a little sports car!

I thought Mazda were known for minimising bolt lengths and the like to save every gram possible?

21mm hex wrench size - I've no idea how long they are. The hubs have studs so they're simply lugnuts.

Oh, and since I used the term 'wheel nuts' in the first place but that was misinterpreted as wheel bolts, I tried to draw an obvious distinction.

It’s ok, anyone who confuses a bolt with a nut shouldn’t use a steering wheel or be left unsupervised.

Braved the cold to do a job I didn’t get around to last weekend.

Change the nsf droplink on the mito as I was convinced it was the source of an annoying knock on smith toy uneven surfaces.

When I removed it it felt ok. Usually they get very loose and floppy when worn. One end felt a bit tight and sticky but wasn’t convinced it would make a noise. Decided to stick a new wishbone on too, I bought a pair years ago because they were cheap, thinking I’d need them soon but never have.

That involved removing the arch liner. While I was there I had a poke about and thought I’d see if I could get the wing to line up better. It was replaced when my mum still had it and a moped came out of a junction into the side of her. Anyway, while I was there…. I found the headlight was being held in pretty much by gravity alone. The upper mount was ok, but nothing holding it at the bottom. No danger of it actually falling out, it’s well squashed between bonnet bumper and wing. I imagine it’s been flickering annoyingly to other road users over bumps though. Looks like during the same repair they just chucked some glue over the broken mounts, without even bothering to clean any dirt off. Hot staples and plastic welder to the rescue!

Then washed it, washed the merc, finished flushing the cooling system on the compact and refilling with antifreeze. Have had a few worrying moments during the week knowing it had a very very diluted mix in and temperatures were dipping not far off zero

MINI all back together yesterday, a good long run today, & all is well. Relief Next up will have to be those front wishbones that I've been putting off for years. I want a nice dry sunny not-freezing-cold weekend for that. The MOT is due next month and I sure they deserve a fail based on the noise they're making.

My alloys are due to arrive on Thursday. Had to pay £192 in duty today which is about what I anticipated. Next task is to find the cheapest price on a set of OEM TPMS sensors; plenty of people online say they've tried aftermarket ones which work at first then stop working for good after a few weeks.

The new wheels come with two valve holes (for purging air, apparently - for fucking me off, more like). So what do I put in the second hole? I'm obviously not putting two TPMS sensors in, and a full size valve is rather obtrusive compared to the shorter TPMS valve. Never seen that before - but I suspect you should flush the air every now and again so that makes it easier /s
