Central rear brake light does not have to work. Reversing light does not have to work. You only need one rear fog light - if only the offside lights up how do they know the broken near side one is supposed to? Front fog lights do not have to work, but if they’re smashed you could fail for sharp edges.

You need side repeaters on anything built after 1985, ( actually, a direction indicator light visible when stood 1m to the side of the rear corner of the car or something ) so if the only ones it has are on the wing mirrors then obviously they have to work.

Well the Model 3 has just blown the main electricity fuse again. It never blows the 100 amp internal fuse but the one on top of the wooden post on the main road.
Always happens in winter after a few hours of charging the car. Kind of can see it coming as the lights in the house get super dim and the car just can’t charge at its usual rate. Making myself an omelette on the electric hob (everything is electric) finished it off.
Now waiting for UK power network.
Might be a long night.

A man arrived quickly and changed the fuse on the pole. Just too much load. EV charger 7.4 kw, boiler 9 kw, I think the hob is also over 7kw but that lot is already at the 100 amp limit. And that’s before you get to lights, tv, miscellaneous electronics.

I don’t know, the man wasn’t in the mood to talk much so I just let him get on with it. It’s definitely a fuse though.
They keep recommending 3 phase but their connection charge is something silly.

9kW boiler? That sounds ridiculously low if it’s actually providing the heat and ridiculously high if it’s just running a pump for an oil or LPG installation.

It’s a dual boiler system. Oil boiler heats water which goes to a hot water tank. Hot water tank also has immersion heaters which keeps the system at temperature overnight.
The immersion heaters also takes excess electricity from the solar panels.

The error codes indicate a complete spazz-out of the canbus, errors against almost every module about communication.

Local and cheap and low mileage. The front end damage mentioned in the description isn't shown in the pics, hmmm, but assuming (!!) the pics are post-accident it doesn't look bad enough to have reached the engine.

* background - the V6 in these was originally developed in collaboration with PSA as a 2.7 litre for general passenger vehicle use, was upgraded a few times, bored & stroked to 3 litres, boosted some more, then put into a vehicle that's near enough 3 tonnes once you've got a driver and passengers / luggage on board, and quite likely to be used for towing. Coupled with some patchy JLR build quality it's simply borderline being up to the job. Donor engines from XFs are favoured as they have spent their life in a much lighter car that probably wasn't towing anything.

Also this is still for sale, has been since August.

That XF is petrol, unless the rev counters weren’t altered for diesels, which I’m pretty sure they are.

How did they do that in just 57000 miles. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a car with rear seats more worn than the fronts.

I think that's what I was thinking, and then subsequently thinking it had side repeaters on the wing and that the mirror repeaters were 'secondary' and so might 'not count'.

But the wing mirror ones are the side repeaters - it doesn't have any others. And that doesn't change the fact that, as noted, generally 'if fitted must work' is a decent rule of thumb.

It's been a loooong week.

Don't pick that engine though - it struggled to move my XF demo along unless above 5k rpm.

Yeah, there’s some options, but they’re far from cheap, and when a good runner is well under £10k (mine was £8.5k and notwithstanding the electrical weirdness it’s cosmetically vgc) it would be hard to justify.

I assumed you'd do the work yourself. Combine the rust/metalworking with @Gavster's food channel and you'll have a guaranteed (not guaranteed under any circumstances) socials money spinner.

Aside, I thought it was the 2.7 that had the bad crank rep (and only long. not trans. mounted), have I got it wrong? Quite likely
