Correct, but I imagine it'll be an annual self declaration, that is also declared/trued-up if the vehicle is sold in the first three years. Just my guess though, could be off the mark.

Taxing pensions, savings, people who put their capital at risk as small business owners and take dividends. Really top tier stuff.

They haven't put NI on LLPs which is somewhat of a positive but I expect that's just be reserved for the next budget when lo and behold, their expenditure has ballooned yet again.

Can't see many positives in there for me personally, maybe we all have to take a bite of the shit sandwich once in a while.

They managed to make this sound way worse than it actually is. Labour PR/spin strikes again! They'll be subject to tax in the same way as non-SS pension contributions. I.e. they won't be subject to income tax, will be subject to IR relief. But will be subject to NI presumably for both employer and employee.

That's my understanding anyway.

Whatever way you slice it, I sacrifice the same amount of my salary as before but my pension pot grows by a smaller amount than before. The difference goes to the exchequer etc.

It's been poorly explained by the govt. but it shouldn't result in less going into your pension, unless your employer was giving you the NI savings as well, surely?

It will result in more NI being levied on the employee for the same pension contribution so it means that to maintain the same level you get poorer that you were previously using the salary sacrifice scheme. The obvious corollary of that is that people may choose to put less in to maintain the same level of income they had before.

And obviously these are breaches of the pledge not to tax "working people" more. People using salary sacrifice for pensions are working people, people that get interest income are also often working people, not wealthy individuals living solely off savings and investments. Freezing bands obviously also increases tax on working people, otherwise if they weren't paying more that there would be no reason to do it.

You (and your employer) just get a hit in the pocket, unless you decide to reduce your contributions, which may well happen of course. I'd bet the bigger knock on effect will be how employers try and save the extra NI costs that they incur.

Yep - e.g. the 100k retail workers that got laid off because they put up NI on employers.

Indeed. And likely lower pay rises, etc.

Edit: possibly those employers who are generous enough to offer an amount great than the auto enrollment minimum but re-think, so potentially a reduction there
