I agree with this except that it's unfair on 80s concept cars.

2 years after showing the concept they produce a production version which is similar but looks worse for having the production realities (like door handles, mirrors etc) so there's no surprise to it. The front and rear ends are particularly ugly yet bland at the same time. In the actual photos as opposed to the press ones, the wheels look both ugly and like they aren't quite in the right places.

This has failure written all over it.

There is a strong hint of 6000SUX about it...

Watching CarWow's video I like it more and more.

It's an absolute statement and pretty innovative in plenty of ways. Really like the red too.

I'm surprised at the positivity. Definitely less appealing than the last XJ to me, even if it had equivalent ICE engines.

I think it looks ok, the prototype has been out for so long now that it’s normalised and once they made it road legal it took away most of the edginess. EV styling is so over the top on most stuff now that it blends in.
The weird thing is this is more suited to a halo car such as the Polestar 1. It doesn’t seem like a practical car or one that will sell a lot. You’d hope Jaguar will come out in a month and announce 3 new affordable models that vaguely resemble this because as it is I can’t see this saving them.

I don’t mind the design and the price is very cheap for a 1000hp/1000NM 4 seater. I’m thinking it looks like a good but cheaper car to challenge the more expensive Bentley Flying Spur equivalent and Rolls Royce Ghost… which is what Jag used to do against Aston Martin.

If it drives well, and they bring back buttons (like they just did on the Range Rover), I can see this working, especially in the US… I hope so and there’s definitely space for a V8 under that bonnet*!

Just looked up the dimensions of my long wheelbase Vauxhall Vivaro B. It’s 5.3m long, that jag is only just shorter, and I can confirm this van is a bastard to park

i don’t get the boot concept, it looks like it has a massively high lip to lift your stuff over (and risk scratching the top edge), then the (very high) boot floor looks to be the same posh finish as the interior, then the whole thing is open to the cabin so anything small you put in the boot will just fall through the gap between the rear seats into the back. None of which is really needed because there’s no rear screen anyway, so it could be completely sealed off.

then there’s no frunk despite half of the car being bonnet.

I hadn’t seen that until now. Even ignoring your other points - that’s a crazy small boot for a car of that size.

Yeah, 450 litres apparently (which is golf sized) but it doesn’t look that and it’s very badly designed to not hold anything particularly normal sized by the looks of it.

Depends how you view it. For me it's a cut price Conti or RR Spectre but with bigger presence than both. I don't think it's intended to be a practical saloon, more an SL alternative.

It is a 4-dr though, and the XJ was no larger even in LWB form. I appreciate they're not going for the executive saloon market this time.
Can't see our Prime Minister appearing in one of these, anyway. Margaret Thatcher liked a P5B coupe so this is a modern equivalent.

It's 450 litres.

My Z4Cs boot capacity is 350 litres apparently, and it's the size of an MX5 and meant to carry two people.

So you're not going continent crushing with four people in the Jag. Because you'll be lucky to get two very middle class peoples luggage in there, never mind four. So much for it being a GT.

Ever been in a XK8?
Jaguar have always been brilliant at this -
XK120, E-type, XJS, XJs except for the last model, S Type, both generation of XK - all compromised packaging for their size.
Really only the X-type and the first gen XF are actually well packaged. The back seats on most XJ since the original through to 2009 were cramped or too low to the floor. Boot space has generally been oddly shaped or small for class.
