That said, a visitor would need hours to gain any range/costs from a 7kw charger, not worth worrying about.

That's why I'm not overly bothered. Of bigger concern was that we could possibly overload the main fuse, although the Zappi has a feature that should prevent that. But we had the main fuse upgraded to 80A on Friday, all done FoC by UKPN, so can't complain and no reason to worry.

If we'd had a garage I'd have it installed there too.

Out of interest EV owners, what would happen if you were out? Is there anything physically stopping me pulling up in an EV car and using your charger?

I flip the breaker for it if we’re away for a bit, but you’d have to be pretty brazen to do it given there’s security camera and several rapid chargers within a mile.

As for visiting, I offer to any visitors and just ask if I’m visiting friends/family and it would save a charge stop. I explain the likely cost and either offer to pay or bring some nice booze instead. Becoming less of a thing as batteries get bigger and rapid charging gets faster though.

The reality is though, if someone comes to your house, then chances are they are your mates. So if they need electricity - they can take as much as they want from me!

This is very true also, but nobody really has a petrol/diesel pump at their home so it’s never been an option really.

In the 80’s absolutely none of my mates wanted to charge their phones using my electricity or to connect their devices to my wifi whilst they munched on my meat. Not like now....

and you'd hope that your visitor had planned their journey well enough to not arrive at your house running on fumes. But if they did, I'd still be out there siphoning enough from my car to get them going.

I think the assumption from this thread is that smug electric car wankers just assume everyone else is happy to pay for their Folly!

My petrol pump is currently out of service, but you're welcome to some leccy if I've invited you round!

I'm not talking about visiting salesmen here, and the truth is if any of my friends turned up and found themselves low on juice they probably wouldn't ask and would expect to visit a charger on the way home, but I'd like to think I'd ask whether they needed any given I have a charging point.

Probably going to spend a good wedge on food and booze if we have guests anyway, what's a bit of electricity if it makes their visit more relaxed.

Lets face it, it'd probably only happen if there were a series of unexpected events (poor weather, charging station on the way full up, had to take a long detour for roadworks or whatever) where they arrived with a nailbiting amount of battery power left.

If the same thing happened to someone in a petrol car, and you had a 5 litre can in the garage, I'm sure you'd chuck it in the tank to make sure they could get to the nearest petrol station without risking going completely empty. Why not throw them a couple of hours of juice if their leccy car is a bit low and they need to get to the nearest public charge point after they leave?

I run on veg oil, olive oil and anything else oily if you have it ?

Like I said, if you pop round you’d get invited for dinner, a drink or whatever else we are currently doing.

I KNOW I have some relatives who will presume they can have a top up while they wait though. I’ve fixed cars on the drive and other bits and bobs before but it seems very strange to me to give out fuel too.

If I had a home EV charger I would ask my friends if they wanted to plug in their car as a matter of course when they come over. When they respond that they drive a petrol / diesel car I would give them a bemused look for a couple of seconds then respond "oh, you're still driving one of those."
