This. White cars look best with a bit of filth on. So use it as intended up there and you'll look cooler than a Rothmans liveried cucumber.

Speaking of this - I watched a Hagerty docu-video on one of Porsche's storage facilities and they noted that the Le Mans winners with all the bugs on are actually clear-coated over the top to preserve the dirt :D

Liveries can look cool, but you also run the risk of it looking like a gumball idiot car or part of a boatshoes hoorays run the lemans.

Also not usually a fan of race car graphics on something obviously a road car, I think as a minimum you need a half cage and fixed buckets to pull it off in the vast majority of cases. Personally I’d prefer a more subtle nod to the race cars than a full on homage. If I had a white car it would be hard to resist a martini stripe of some sort.

Do you guys have the same issue with stripes on 458 speciale, 488 Pista, Lambos of all types?
I dislike them on Speciales etc as well. I don’t like the stripes along the bottom of the doors on 911s.

Where they are acceptable is on a genuine rally/racing car. Even a replica. But the Porsche homage ones available as options on the Dakar aren’t that close to the originals and simply look gauche.

I don't mind stripes. I don't like the idea of paying thousands of pounds for them. I avoid this by being too poor to afford a stripe, let alone the car they would be on.

What about a Dodge Viper or a Ford GT (i.e. the modern reincarnation(s) that's not a GT40)? Surely you wouldn't remove them from those?

We have a solution - get it looking like that and then clear coat over the top. Porsche factory approved.

Changing a flat in the supermarket car park? Nailed it.

(yeah, technically that should be 'screw it')

Repairable, apparently.
Thank you Yeti for having a spare wheel.
And for only being a mile up the road so I could leg it home and get some equipment.

Viper: no. Ford GT: ok, a pair of white stripes over the middle of the car and white stripes on the door bottoms is acceptable because the car looks so much like the GT40 and the stripes are the same. But otherwise no.

This. And that's not livery. It's just stripes. Hence it's not trying to look like something it isn't.

The TT is now no longer worth what it needs. Bodywork tatty, needs new rear arms, front lowers, a Cat and 2 new rear tyres.

Total spent on tax, insurance, servicing, tyres 4 sets, 2 cambelt changes and shocks and h+r springs, Koni adjustables, plus a burbly stainless exhaust, £8710 in 55,000 miles and 8 years. We got the car for free as the engine was buggered so that’s total cost.

Average mpg 36.

ML average mpg 21.

So 55000 miles is 2619 gallons, average price of fuel call
It a low 125p, so £14,860 that would have cost us in fuel alone in the ML.

So by owning a second car we saved £6150 😎

We all love man maths.

I’ve been given cart blanche for a similar car and all I can think of is Clio 182, I don’t like much else and Minis I don’t like how they drive, I’m a big fan of the RCZ as I just love that roof but the wife doesn’t like them.

I shall ponder and hopefully find one before Christmas.

Dave!

If you’re looking at anything renaultsport check out the history of belts/pulleys and dephasers. All expensive jobs that need to be done on schedule or you’re asking for problems. Also look for oil leaks between engine and gearbox and the gearbox end plate as they all go in those spots

The X5 let us down on Saturday - my first proper breakdown in eleven years.
Driving from London to Cornwall we had a 70th birthday to go to near Wincanton, and I pulled up at Mcdonalds to get the kids lunch. While at the drive through the dash went crazy, so I switched it off and back on again and but it wouldn't turn over.
Unusually my jump pack was in the boot, and it fires straight away but wouldn't let me go into drive, so I switched it off. The battery was showing 10% and we'd been driving for two hours.

Sent the family off to the 70th in a taxi (not easy in Wincanton, after calls to seven firms Lancelot taxis came to the rescue!), then waited four hours for the RAC, expecting to wait another two once they found that it was a dead alternator and would need a tow, so I booked the nearest half-decent hotel for the night.

RAC man jumped the car and confirmed that it wasn't charging, but suggested that he leave the jump pack on so that I could drive to the hotel. He couldn't get the pack to sit safely in the boot, so hooked up a new battery. Deciding to double check the voltage, the car had now started charging again - perhaps the old AGM battery had failed in a big way and was sucking any voltage it could get?

Drove to the hotel, and it had stopped charging. He disconnected the 'smart' charging unit from the battery (which engages the alternator), and we had a healthy 14.4v. Took it for a drive and checked again and all was well with the world.
Nice RAC man gave me the battery for free, and we've done 200 miles now without issue. I've got a new smart battery module arriving at the end of the week. It's a new one on me but apparently has become an issue oin the last couple of years as the first generations of these uints are beginning to fail.

The only thing I’m a bit worried about is rust, pulling the rear door cards out for the fuel filler etc. I really can’t deal with any paintwork.

I’ll need a nose around one at a dealer somewhere to make sure it’s going to fit us all in when needed but nothing else appeals currently. Budget up to 3.5k.

Gf’s mini is making a graunching noise from nsr wheel and looks like there’s filings on the brake pad.. no jack so off to be checked/fixed tomorrow. I thought it was just a trapped stone but the filings worry me that it’s something more serious. Ideas?
