I've been checking the oil level when it's had plenty of time to settle - after a few hours, or overnight. Turns out that's wrong. It has to be hot So you have to remember to time it 10 mins after driving it, no less, but not significantly more, or else you need to warm it up and wait again

Manual states:

Before checking the oil level, make sure that:

The vehicle is on level ground.
The engine oil has reached operating temperature (oil is hot).
The engine has been switched off for 10 minutes. The system will not give an accurate reading until the oil level has stabilised.

That journey sounds ungodly. I also thought it'd gone long time.

Mito wheel bearing done. Very easy job, 30mins from stepping outside to going back in including stuffing some extra grease in as it looked like febi were a bit stingy with it, but then it looks like they were with the oe one too.

Couldn’t feel any play in the old one but was definitely a bit gritty sounding when spun by hand, but doubt you’d be able to tell with the wheel on unless you backed the caliper right off.

Sounds like they're a unit that bolts on & off. The fronts on the Discovery are like that, whereas the rears are pressed in. The rears need replacing

Ooh - I’ve not experienced one of them. Pressing wheel bearings into the hub was always the pain for me - no press always meant big vice, spacers, hammers, swearing.

Just booked the i3 in for 4x new tyres. After reading stories of being horrendously expensive - they're a weird size that I think is unique to the i3 - they're not too bad and my local place came in usefully cheaper than BlackCircles - £560 vs. £625 for OEM Bridgestone.

Dropped the Evora at the specialist yesterday. Service, plus fitting of two new rear tyres. Pretty impressive that you can fit two 285/30/20 in the interior, although the rear and side views are partially compromised. For insurance purposes I had to have the load inspected by a German Shepherd before I could drive it. Luckily passed.

On the topic of pressing matters, I bought one of these kits to do the gearbox bush on the 360, and used it again doing the Discovery rear suspension upper/lower ball joints. Available from various ebay sellers. Works well in conjunction with an impact wrench.

Not even a modern style bolt bolt on unit (which I was expecting) but a nice simple single hub nut, slide off the spindle one, very similar for a rwd bmw front bearing.



Bonus nerd points, the part is shared with the 90s Alfa 145/146 models. They were the last cars to use the flat 4 boxer engine originally designed for the alfasud
