Interesting that we can’t make even replacement parts like we used to. Not a good advert for running a classic…
Nice plug from Harry wrt Jags and mag coverage.
£7.5k PA to insure that size of fleet seems like pretty good value.

I didn’t notice much in the way of actual costs other than insurance despite the title of the video. If it was just the services he mentioned it really isn’t bad - the restorations are, though, absolutely not for me. You spend all that money to then have the cars unusable due to problems. Ugh. Hope the Zagato doesn’t suffer.
You’d think Tom Lenthal would know this stuff about the original injectors not being up to the job in his engines…

It’s hard to find a painter who will do a half decent job so a few niggly faults after a highly complex and thorough restoration is pretty good going imo.

I would have thought for all the money spent and time taken, especially knowing he was a fairly high profile customer, that everything would have been thoroughly checked and tested before giving it back.
Maybe that’s just me.

I’m surprised they didn’t run the engine in on a dyno first considering.

Not exactly addressing the fact that Harry paid a lot for a fully built engine which doesn’t work due to component choices by the engine builder…

I wonder how rare it is that those older "disc" type injectors in that V12 get used at high revs?
Maybe there aren't that many manual Jag V12s driven with the enthusiasm Harry has?
Or some combination of effects similar cars don't have, perhaps the usual thing to do is gut the whole EFI system and run aftermarket.

Eighty seven thousand on that Lancia rebuild. What the actual fuck. That is properly ridiculous.
I mean looking at the work that went into it I can easily see how it came to that but I can’t easily see how you would justify it.
I know he saw that car when he was young but it wasn’t a ‘family car’. For example, if I could find my dad’s first white 928 S I would happily buy that and spend more than it was worth restoring it but that has serious personal meaning, not just a car I once saw in period…

I think you’re right. Hardly any will have been pulled apart as the cars are not worth enough to rebuild (earlier e-types will have been, but they run carbs) and like most old cars they can be fairly reliable until you start tinkering trying to make improvements.
Given how modded the rest of the car is he should have put it on throttle bodies and ditched the old injection. Jenvey do a kit for less than £4k.

IIrc it was discussed in the engine vid. I can't remember if it was the injectors or something else he said he doesn't guarantee any more due to the age and wear of the parts you have to reuse when rebuilding, and that getting twelve good injectors would/could take four or five sets to get a decent set. The builder had an answer using modern injectors that necessitated late V12 inlet manifolds that Harry didn't go for because his has period modified manifolds etc. That's no excuse for the pishness of the new ones, even with the new exhaust headers I can't imagine it needing more fuel than they should be able to supply. Hopefully the idea they have at the mo' will solve the problem.

Tom Lenthall builds race engines, though I guess he doesn’t do so with the original injectors. If that’s the case, why include them in this build, which is a tuned engine?

I didn't realise how expensive the MC20 is. And I also didn't notice until someone commented on PH that Jag beat Maserati to the design with the C-X75. It's really quite similar; maybe Maserati thought the Jag looked good and because it wasn't actually put into production they could basically steal its design.

Way higher than I was expecting too. Watching Harry trying to deploy all the powers unsuccessfully reminded me strongly of trying to do the same in Pete @revsRus's 600LT. Dry roads but less than 5DegC meant rampant wheelspin even in 4th at.... <ahem>
600LT isn't known for general traction issues, so I have blindly assumed the Mazer will be similar.
Dihedral doors that open that wide are a bit stoopid.

Yeah, I was surprised with the cost. At first I thought he said £115k and I thought that was high, then realised I was about £80k short. You would've thought it would've made more sense to target it at the less racy Porsches but it seems to be stepping all over Ferrari's toes.
I don't really like it in general though tbh.
Also coming to hate the flat fart noise that all these V6 sports cars seem to make on upshift.

A carbon-tubbed supercar weighing in at 1700kg with just a V6 and no batteries?

Er…… sound deadening ?
25kg short of my steel bodied 4 door saloon and not a piece of carbon in sight.
Are modern engines with all their auxiliaries heavier than older simpler engines ?

It’s annoyed me for a long while that modern materials and manufacturing techniques only seem to be keeping pace with the increasing size, safety and complexity of cars instead of offering any real weight savings.
