They're glorious. Look like they could have been made by Cromodora. At first I thought you'd put E30 bottle tops on it but then I looked again

Although it does highlight that it needs lowering slightly....

They look ace.

Summer holidays completed. 1991 miles to Lake Maggiore and back via Clermont-Ferrand and Geneva (and trips around).

Nothing broke, Aircon kept us cool, and apart from having to sneak over speed bumps when we were fully loaded to avoid the towbar scraping there was very little drama.

Italy was beautiful, the lake amazing, and we had a great time. I do prefer France though.

They’re not too dissimilar the the factory optional Cromodora campanatura alloys, they’re 5.5x13, these are 6x14, and a bit more aggressive in style.



As an aftermarket wheel they probably weren’t very popular in the 70s when everyone was putting slotmag style wheels on everything

The most famous set was probably on the Richard Longman British saloon car championship winning car. Still one of the fastest minis around and regularly driven at historic events by Nick Swift

Just racked up 7k miles in the 330e, its a nice enough cruiser but its nowhere near as nimble as the 4 Series/Gran Coupes I had and it takes a lot of encouragement to get it moving, you can certainly feel it's 1800kg when you try and hustle it but the the extra weight at the back does make the back end more loose, sometimes shockingly so!

I am back from holiday and the GTS is back from the dealer. I had it recovered to Porsche South London in Sidcup rather than Guildford after the prior fiasco with them.

On the plus side they had replaced the tyre pretty quickly... err that's it really. On the downside - a number of annoying things:

- they charged my £61 over the going rate for it (£426 v 365 fully fitted online). In a non 'distress' scenario I'd be ordering tyres to them to fit rather than having them just charge whater Pirellis RRP is;
- no communication from the in the week I was away until I chased this morning;
- they fobbed me off on a couple of the points I asked them to check ((1) rattle on startup they just said yes its tensioners coming up to pressure but nothing to worry about - in reality I expect they do need replacing but they know the insurer behind the warranty likely wont do so until the chain is rattling even after startup... (2) bonnet struts they said were fine even then a slight gust of wind will have the bonnet clouting you on the head - probably will just replace those myself));
- the hose for the windscreen washer which had split - they have 'fixed' but essentially looks like they've just taped it up... the plastic cover which holds the hose in place was still in the frunk where I left it, along with the towing eye that had been removed for the recovery and the tyre pump - even though they had to get into where they are stored to remove the centrelock wheel tool...;
- the car had been washed... which is true... apart from the wheels which had not been washed and still had the tyrefitters gunk all over the NSR.

Essentially main dealers - particularly the service side - are all the bloody same.

It wouldn’t be anything silly, just a set of springs to remove some of the arch gap, especially at the front as it currently sits very nose up!

It really could do with some new dampers, but they’re not easy to track down. I need to remove the ones on it and have a measure up, I’m sure there’s something off a small similar weight hatchback which will work.

Any chance of a refurb? I'm considering having the Evora fronts refurbed by Bilstein (I have new ones for the rear) - much cheaper, but the car would be off the road for a few weeks (2 weeks turnaround at Bilstein currently).

It’s almost certainly possible, I know Bilstein will do one off projects too, a friend had them make some coilovers for his Rover SD1.

However I’m sure it’s considerably above what I would be willing to pay on this car!

Rear ones should be easy, they’re just a pin mount at the top and a bolt through a round bush at the bottom.

Inserts for the front struts might be trickier.

With the original wheels the ride height was fine. With these alloys it needs to be a bit lower. IMO, obvs.

To be honest, lowering wasn’t really a thing back then. Even the sporty Ti models were barely any lower than my mundane version.

I wouldn’t do anything silly with it, but a couple of inches to get the wheels sitting evenly in the arches would be nice.

Mito passed the MOT with flying colours. I realised yesterday that the MOT expired in May, so then went straight to the garage to book one for this morning!
