It's a definite 20 foot car and the photo is very complimentary but it's rock solid. Apparently "patina" is the latest buzz word in VW circles so it'll fit right in.
Very much approve. Air cooled beetles are still something I regularly search for but haven’t quite been brave enough to try. I’m definitely at the scruffy but solid end of the market.

Fond memories of my first real on road sideways moment in my uni housemates purple one at about 15mph in the rain 😃

Not much in the way of photos yet, this was taken by the last owner as I drove it away

Few answers to the questions

Jobbo - It’s a 1966 and was originally 6v but like many it is now running 12v. I don’t think there’s much to do to convert them, bulbs mainly and a few electrical bits. Agree on the soft top comment :D

SJ - This is my third Beetle. My parents bought a brand new one on the 1st of August 1973 (new reg day) so I spent many years of my childhood in one and it seems to have affected me!

Jamcg - Not so easy to fool people with a Beetle, my old v6 Clio though…

Harry - 8-)

Very cool! Needs to be lower tho 😂 and have a narrowed beam. Love a Beetle on Empi 5s, it’s such a timeless look. How are the heater channels?

My first three cars were Beetles, had a ‘74, a ‘66 and then a ‘65 before I got fed up with them as daily drivers. Lovely weekend car tho.

I’m not entirely sure on the colour but I think Chinchilla grey was ‘68 and onwards from some quick online research. Someone has mentioned sea sand but it’s difficult to match it to colours on the Internet. More research needed!

Lowering, I’ve already bought some zero offset dropped spindles for the front, they’ll do for now :) The heater channels are spot on, as is the floor etc.

I never understood the narrowed beam thing with Beetles, it always looked awful to me!

Today was the day I found out that narrow-beam beetling is a thing. This is intentional? :?

It's to fit wider wheels isn't it? Also done to tuck the wheels right up into the arches to get the car's belly right on the floor for stance and scene shizzle.

Still looks shit to me, no matter what the justification!

It’s to get them as low as possible because the high point of the arch is in the middle, not close to the outside edge where the wheels normally sit.

Like everything, there are lots of variations on the theme and some people take it to extremes where it can look comical, but I like them when the wheels are tucked in a little and they’re lowered substantially.

Guys, can you please raise your hand if this comes as no surprise to you whatsoever?

I helped a friend lower his baby blue one, strip steel going into a hole. When we dropped off the kerb, we knew it was a mistake 😂

I’d have one in a big car collection, wicker basket, roof rack etc but it would probably never get driven.

Could you do a 10 to 60 run please, I’ve a race planned with my friends one in the Defender and it would be nice to see if I ever stand a chance 😂

Dave!

I'll see if I can find some old photos of mine, they were completely decked

The epitome of dull mile-muncher, with a shockdiamonds spec. I'll let you all know how I get on with it.

The headrests seem to jut out a fair bit?

No, happy coincidence, but it certainly eased the haggling process as I pushed for a family deal :)

Comfort seats come up on ebay - e.g. these in black https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176468053063 - and are much easier to retrofit than any of the other
spec on this one. So I decided to go for it and to wait for some cream seats to come up.
