RR sold. 51 days. I think that's the shortest time I've ever owned a car.
Someone just posted top 10 fastest cars for £10k: all the obvious, but one that is pretty left field was a Chrysler 300C estate with 6.1 Hemi. Perfect station car!

Shame it didn't work out (and you didn't buy mine with the different seats - would have killed two birds with one stone

)
I can't work out what to replace it with if insurance is still silly towards the end of the year. Everything else comparable I either don't want or is also stupid insurance. Currently I'm looking at Maserati QP 4.7 GTSs.
What could go wrong?!?

Did you stick the original headrests back in? And get a decent price?
Yes and yes. I was bloody lucky.

If you fancy a very cheap, slightly older QP, my Dad's one is going through Historics on the 20th:
https://www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot ... ?lot=16650
Even if you don't, these sales are quite a nice day out to go and poke around a variety of interesting cars.

Oof there are some interesting lots in that one. May be tempted to go along!

Passat W8 or ZT260 could make good station cars. Both interesting without tying up much money, and the fact they make crap power for their capacity isn't that important.....

That's glorious. It's only now that I appreciate the Mulsanne properly I think. Bentley developed it after the VAG acquisition but seem not to have used an existing VW/Audi platform and parts; the engine was a development of the old Crewe V8 and the platform which you might imagine would have been linked to the Panamera's is unique as far as I have read.
Chris Harris owned one for a bit and seemed to consider it was somewhat expensive to run, IIRC. Not sure if it suits spannering yourself.

Did you keep/fail to sell the Bentley? You could always go back to that.

Bentley long gone now. I couldn't figure out the clunking noise from the suspension, sold it for £7k in the end, now turns out I could have kept it. D'oh
I'd consider having another one. They've totally ruined the front end on the current iteration though. I won't be spending £195k on that.

It is one of my favourite bodystyles. I’d go for more money in the engine and less on the paint though

Judging by this, I'm alone in this, but I just don't see the appeal of Bentleys. I quite liked SJs £10k one, but even if I was a billionaire, I don't think I'd ever want one. They're just big and fat and usually belong to 80 year olds with leather skin.

That would be a great concept - "Let's give Steve a box of wine, load up eBay and an PayPal account with £5k in it. Come back tomorrow morning to find out what he's bought"
HOLD MY BEER

And the W8 is one I need to cross off my list…
mik wrote: Sun May 19, 2024 11:45 pm
W8’s are undeniably fascinating, but they fall into the same category for me as the ZT260 in that you wonder what became of the other 80+ bhp the spec sheet suggests they
should have.

I wonder why they don't show the hammer price?

The Arnage T I drove was lovely, big quilted carpets, huge torque, a nose that rose when you put your foot down and a big engine surge
I’d definitely have one if I was there obnoxiously wealthy.
Dave!
