Wow - three months eh? Expect that isn't going to be a small bill. Car is appreciating in value though so worth it in the long run and sensible to keep it as original as possible.

Sadly by the time I get around to buying one all the reasonably priced ones will have gone Most seem to be priced around or above £20k these days.

Very much not a small bill, no! Initial estimate is £18K including the strip/reassemble, new seals and window trims, body and paint and all the trim done from scratch. I can probably bring that down a couple of grand by using Southbound or someone to make up the leather bits based on their standard trim kit options though I confidently expect anything I save there to be offset by unexpected "matters arising". Mentally I'm in a "change from £20k will be good" sort of place, but really keen to do the work properly so I can enjoy the car for another couple of decades.

The shop is a really good one, they specialise in restoring older classics, have done lots of gorgeous E-types and are currently restoring an old Pontiac, which is involving them hand-beating some new panels. I will of course be haunting the place over the winter so I can take photos, post them here and be brutally Micked for paying too much.

Made a start today, cleaned out the black car, hoovered up all the shit and dust, I’ll give it a wipe down tomorrow to clean up rest. I think I should put some sort of sound deafening back in as the factory stuff has started to crack.

Hoping to make a start on the loom interior loom swap tomorrow, lack of light in the unit is the biggest issue atm, have called a couple of electricians to wire in some lights but I’m not hopeful before the weekend.

Managed to put 800 miles on the Disco before driving it 1000 miles to Spain. London to near Barcelona with an overnight stop in Limoges, having not been able to leave London until 11am.
It did well, other than selling like it was on fire after trying to drive it like a sports car in the Pyrenees it’s well balanced for a front wheel bias suv, tightening its line noticeably when lifting off and pulls well out of corners, but the brakes aren’t up to enthusiastic mountain driving.
The adaptive dynamics option on these makes such a big difference to the handling, comfort when loaded up with people, and gearbox calibration that you’d be mad not to spec it, yet hardly any used cars are out there with it.

Which Disco varient?

It's going to be 911 a-go-go here on Saturday. I've managed to volunteer to help two guys from 911uk fit their Cup steering wheels, and a third is coming along just to say hi.

This started because the first guy asked his Tuna to do it and after five hours of working on it they still can't get the horn to work. The symptoms (works with ignition off, but not with ignition on) are the same as when I fitted mine, and I solved it by simply adding an earth to the steering column. So either mine is a massive fluke, or the "experts" are morons. Place your bets...

It needs new tyres now. When I bought it new it came on some horrible continentals that made a heck of a racket, so I immediately binned them for Goodyear Eagle F1s. Amazingly, they've lasted 35,000 miles. I rotated them about half-way through and both ends are now just off the wear markers.

I'm tempted to put a set of Sottozero on it, although it's still a bit early for winters. My thinking is between now and March I'll either source a new set of wheels which are not kerbed to fvck and put another set of Eagles on those, or maybe go to the vRS optional 19 rims which look pretty decent.

I do a fair number of miles in the middle of the night with urgent blood/poo/boobie milk during the winter months when it's too cold for the bikes to be on duty, so I'm justifying winters on that basis.

G/f's bike. Still makes me LOL every time I get on it. Headlight bulb keeps vibrating out of it's socket and going off. Fun at night. She doesn't ride it at night. Hilarious to ride.
