Edit: I forgot to add that Mexico got donold to agree to do something about the flow of guns to Mexico. I saw a figure of 700,000 per year, arming the drug cartels that donold blames for everything

The press mostly forgot to mention that. And he won’t do it anyway. But still, he made a concession and they carried on doing what they were already doing. So much winning.

Canada is great. I’ve been there once and enjoyed it. I should go again.

And the treasury stuff. Sounds like all the systems are written in COBOL, a language invented in 1959 would you believe, and now totally dead apart from extreme legacy systems like this. They fired all the senior people with a lifetime of experience and now there’s a bunch of university students using ChatGPT to create COBOL code to patch into a live system that handles trillions of dollars.
Beany - sounds like your area of expertise. Is this a good idea ?

I fully agree btw, no one’s willing to make the sacrifices needed though. That being more expensive things in general and the lack of ability to have any piece of cheap tat you want from 6000 miles away in two days.
We need to make the cheap foreign manufacturing less appealing. Maybe put some kind of tax on it ???
I genuinely can’t tell if you’re trying to make fun of me

Wasn’t aimed at you personally !
Just a comment about tariffs. People love cheap stuff and China has that market nailed. I think the horse has bolted on that one.
I’m not really sure what we import from the US ? Actual made in US stuff, not American brands made in China.

Have only been to Toronto, but it has a totally different feel/vibe to the multiple US locations I have been to. Have only visited or worked in both, so my feelings are only superficial, but Canada/Canadians felt more “genuine”.

Aye that was kind of my point.
There’s no real appetite for change until someone fucks with the system. Foresight doesn’t make anyone money apparently

A useful, impartial, rundown from the ONS:
https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/national ... s2023/2023
There's a lot to absorb there but on the face of it, apart from the fact they more or less speak the same language, the only USP is the financial markets & associated services. Physical goods & commodities should be able to be sourced elsewhere if necessary.

Grok tells me it's a great idea, can't fail, USA! USA! SOUTH AFRICAN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT! SOUTH AFRICAN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT! HAS ALL YOUR POPULATIONS PRIVATE DATA! HAS ALL YOUR POPULATIONS PRIVATE DATA!
(this is like to end extremely badly and with several jail sentences for the very young, impressionable fuckwits he's convinced to do it for him, who he publicly named, and then claimed it was illegal to name when he realised he was setting them up for a Luigi'ing. He's also been carrying around his son on his shoulders again recently, a lot of X Marks the Spot jokes online - people seem to be getting more comfortable with the concept of his son being acceptable collateral damage if he's going to use him as a human shield - which he very much appears to be doing - given the flagrant lawbreaking he's doing with private citizen data)

No, if it was I'd be capitalising the O or the OLD like jobbo's t-shirt. It's just a deliberate misspelling, same as the deliberate lower case d.

Colonising the Gaza strip is, let's say, a fairly wild idea...
Not sure whether its one of those "this is the batshit crazy stuff we could do so accept some other proposal" or whether he genuinely is proposing that.

I can’t imagine why famous hotel owner Donald Trump would be excited for a new coast on the med to develop.

I'd suggest it is misdirection. Get the media frothing about something other than the data grab and what appears to be a coup in all but name.

ha!
to be honest, i think it’s, to use the expression - one of my icks. i just find it really cringey when people use “funny” versions of people names repeatedly. Someone on here kept referring to James O’Brien as “James Oh Brexit” the other day and i found it beyond embarrassing after the first time. If it didn’t get a laugh/acknowledgment the first time, it isn’t clever/funny/original.

I tend to agree with Rich tbh, reminds me of all those cringe #fbpe anti brexit people.

Hilary did some government emails on a non-gov server
ANGRY MAGA SCREAMING FOR OVER A DECADE
Musk scrapes literally all data from the US social security and budget control systems to private servers ( we assume, there's no actual confirmation of
what they're doing with the data)
MAGA MASTURBATE THEMSELVES INTO A DROOLING COOMING FRENZY
A significant proportion of the republican party and their biggest cheerleaders could easily be improved by a few 12 gauge slugs to the face.

I heard one US tech's opinion that even if the law/army/whoever somehow swept in and got Musk and his teenagers out TODAY (which clearly isn't about to happen), the damage has been done. There'll be backdoors in there that they'd never find, and they'd need to rebuild the whole thing from scratch to ensure they were
actually out.
