:D Hope so, when I was driving through Farnborough town centre there were times at which I could barely focus on the road ahead.

Surely a 7 specialist should know better!?

Yep, I was running 18psi all round on the A048s and it felt right.

JonMad kindly organised a forum trip to Farnborough Costco at the weekend - so I met up with him, GG & Duncs. With a bit of time to kill before lunch we went to Surrey Rolling Road and did some quick power runs. The Aston performed perfectly, producing a touch over the factory spec of 380hp. I am quite pleased to know it's a "good" one.

Well the spring washer bodge by Kwik Fit didn't last long. I had the proper paperclip on order from Cotswold BMW anyhoo.

Fitted by Darren Wood's on Sat morning when it went in for an oil service. In their usual top blokes way, they even fitted a replacement actuator that they had lying around, as it turned out that the wife had obviously damaged that bit as well when she went potholing. No charge for either fitment or part 8-)

The BMW went back to BMW on Saturday for the windscreen washer leak. Apart from the hassle of getting it there (and collecting again) it was a very pleasant experience. New pump fitted to cure the leak. And a quick health check reporting back the condition of tyres & brakes. And a wash & vac. I think I could get used to this warranty palava !

They also activated the telematics. Apparently the car will communicate with BMW when it detects a fault and someone will call me to arrange for the work to be carried out. I'm still being amazed at the tech, and this is not a new car. It's seven years old. This was new tech seven years ago.

Parts suppliers in general. In the past week or so:

- New OEM mirror for my Suzuki motorbike is a completely different shape to the actual OEM mirror but "the part number is correct"
- Fairing bolt kit missing 8 rather important bolts which hold the screen on, despite being described as a complete kit ("those are available separately")
- HEL Braided brake line kit came direct from the manufacturer with 5 banjo bolts, 2 of which were the wrong thread ("We sometimes have problems with Suzuki using different threads on the same year bike", er, yeah, but surely not on the same fucking bike?!)
- Brodit phone mount came in a bag that had obviously been opened and resealed and was missing the mounting screws

I've wiped everything from before lunch from my memory. I don't recall any power runs and definitely none where my car was 32.8hp less powerful than it should have been :? Basically I drove all the way to Farnborough for hot dogs...

Unfortunately for DeskJockey that didn't make it to lunch this also means I have to deny ever having met him. ;)

After thinking more about it I also wonder whether it could need de-carbonising as well as new new coil packs, because DFI. Sadly I expect that wouldn't be a cheap job.

How does the Vantage compare to your 996, performance wise? The 996 has ~80 fewer BHP, but weighs something like 200kg less, right?

I'm guessing they feel rather different in how they deploy their power, despite both being NA?

Actually on the basis of SJ's RR results for the 996 and Vantage - more like 110hp between the two.

I too wonder if it needs to be decoked. Charlie did say it’s normal for M96/7 to be ‘under’, but DFI engines should be a lot better, and GT3s to be ‘over’, particularly RS.

Mine from a couple of years ago at SRR (300 bhp factory):

It’s closer to 250-275 kg. Google suggests Vantages to be 16xx kg.

C2 is supposed to 1320kg. I reckon mine, with options is probably 1350.

It’s horrible from cold and pogoes for 30 seconds when gently accelerating in first so I’m convinced it needs coil packs.

I’ve just been re-reading about the causes of coking on the inlet valves and another lightbulb went on in that obviously mine had the air oil separator fail meaning the intake was covered in a film of oil - obviously that over a period of time most likely means it will have been more susceptible to gunking up.

Given the expense of that though, I’ll probably get someone to stick an endoscope down it and have a look first.

You can get an endoscope that plugs into your phone for not much off Amazon, probably cheaper than paying someone else.

Walnut blast that expensive? With coil packs can you not DIY? Should throw a code too, worth investing in a code reader off Amazon.
