Sounds good! Regardless of whether I’ll do it again, I enjoyed the process and learning what’s what. I’m a decent DIY’er and I’m not afraid of bodging my way through pretty much any task, but being shown the correct methods and tricks is really good fun.
Plus, I think this is the first thing I’ve ever built (and also the sharpest) that didn’t involve any blood! I’m always cutting or grazing my hands (I still had several cuts from the timber floor I laid the day before!) - I guess this shows that when you do it right, it’s way safer!

Re: Knife making course
I presume they explained NOT to store the knife in the sheath ??
If not - Don't store your knife in the sheath...

Re: Knife making course
Yeah I only mentioned damascus as an example - realise you need some heavier duty kit to do so.

See all of that appeals. I used to be quite a fucking whizz on a grinder and pretty useful at forging and heat treatment and all the metallurgy of it - it was quite a while ago mind...Rich B wrote: Thu Apr 25, 2019 9:19 am I wouldn’t be bothering with Damascus or anything too flash until I could confidently make (and have all the tools to make) a decent knife from bar stock. Forge welding and folding Damascus is way more involved and looks like hard work without decent equipment.
Tbh - If I ever wanted to do it again as a hobby, I’d probably start with a decent belt sander and make knives starting with stock removal first - then move onto forging if I still liked that.
