It's about the only thing I took away from the one I went on just before Xmas. No one other than me, and I really mean no one, could answer the speed limit questions 100% accurately. I'd say best was probably 60-70%. Most were well down at practically completely wrong on every level. Some claiming that they were never told how to identify limits from features other than speed limit signs.

It was generally me answering the questions as no one else would. I would've shut up but it was the only thing keeping me from falling asleep, and I wanted to make sure everyone else knew they were as thick as shit.

Within a certain timeframe, and I think it's per police force too.

Works similar to points doesn't it? Get caught again with 3/4yrs and you can't do another SAC.

We were told once a SAC has been completed it's 3 years before you are eligible again.

I think I’ll be doing this

Three years between courses. My second one was a couple of months over the three year limit, which was rather lucky.

Course 1 - 34 in a 30. Learned a lot. Changed my driving habits significantly in low speed zones.

Course 2 - 82 on the M40. Learned nothing new. All about why you shouldn’t speed in a 30 which I don’t and contained some frankly ludicrous untruths which devalued the whole thing.

Course 3 - 80 on an M-Way near Southampton. Learned nothing new. All about why you shouldn’t speed on a 30 which I don’t

FFS stop speeding in 30 zones Dinny.

I’ll be honest, I’ve had a run of Merc’s as Company Cars which display the limit on the dash and it starts to flash intermittently if you keep exceeding it. Makes 40’s a lot easier to spot as they normally more difficult to spot than 30 zones

* I mean less than 70 on the speedo, not even at an indicated 70. It wasn't an issue, it wasn't busy at the time and lane discipline was excellent so everything flowed well, but it was noticeably different from other areas and enough to make me keep thinking I must be speeding if I keep going past so many people. It might be a pain at busier times though.

You’re always on the M20 much like me aren’t you? All the idiots are doing 40-45 on the endless 50 zone with lorries overtaking them at 56 mph. I just stay in the right line at 55-60 to avoid the carnage and not get involved.

I'll admit I'm not as good at this as I perhaps should be but with so many limits changed in so many places I'm distrustful also. I'm not a 40 everywhere or 50 in a nsl arse though.

You're right, those 40 limit signs are practically invisible compared to the 30 limit ones.

Pretty much, but with not working I have the time to take a different/scenic route if possible these days to (try and) avoid the ballache of it. I ended up in it the other day though after HE said they'd removed it until October and they hadn't, and they've now said they probably won't

We had to learn what speed limits were on different roads, and how to know them

We had to do a thing where we had to sit in our groups and discuss how people might be affected by a very small bump/accident

Then we had to think about how leaving space between us and the car in front of us might be safer

And we had to learn that maybe looking out for hazards might stop us from crashing into stuff - wild new knowledge like, maybe at a junction a car might pull out, or at pedestrian crossings, there might be pedestrians

I did learn a road fact tho

Norn Iron and Scotland have lower NSL speeds for Lorry’s and Vans etc than the rest of the UK
