Even the 2018 Mac Mini struggles - there's apparently lag which is not nice. Plenty out there if you google it.

Don't see the point in them personally.

Android TV boxes with ARM processors are more than sufficient, cheaper and have huge support.

I use one for retro gaming on the big screen. SNES emulation is good enough.

Also used one as a docker platform, and as a broker in a proxmox high availability cluster.

Handy things if you have a use case.

My 2012 Mac Mini does a pretty perfect emulation of an original Playstation, with the benefit of being able to use a Dualshock 4 controller via Bluetooth. I suspect it's more awkward to do that on a Pi but still perfectly feasible.

I can’t tell much from a quick search as it’s the usual split between people who have it working perfectly fine and then people like Beany who have tried change the GUI to an odd scale and had lag or tried some other weird shit
I’d just buy one and if it didn’t work well with 4k return it within 14 days, probably less time consuming than reading a bunch of forums too.

You're always going to scale the display if you're running a 4K monitor, unless you want text which is tiny.

So it should still work perfectly for a media centre when connected to a TV putting out a native 4k resolution

Yes, until you do anything other than watch a video stream. Seems expensive for something which doesn't excel at what it's supposed to and won't be a particularly good media centre, but hey.

PS1 is fine as far as I know, and DS4 definitely works - I've played Yoshis Island with one.

If you have a Mac Mini kicking about it's a better choice (and more usable for other stuff) but for around £50 for a Pi, official PSU and a spare SD card, it's really not bad at all.

The monitor I had spare in the loft is not HDMI.

My cheap computer will be not so cheap
