Granted I've not looked at either in person yet but according to the data on Autotrader:

E70:
Luggage capacity (seats up) 620 litres
Luggage capacity (seats down) 1750 litres

Disco 4:
Luggage capacity (seats up) 1260 litres
Luggage capacity (seats down) 2558 litres

So the E70 is tiny, relatively ;)
That just can't be right though can it? If you open a disco boot and an E70 boot they look very similar in size. There's absolutely no way that a Disco boot is TWICE AS BIG
yeah, I call shenanigans. Sure that Disco 4 isn’t the commercial one with no back seats?

It's not though is it. If an X5 has 3rd row seating, you can sit in the seats. If the Disco was twice as high you'd be able to stand on the seats comfortably yet that's obviously not possible.

It'll either be:
- just wrong
- a quirk of how its been measured

FWIW my X5 hasn't got 3rd row so instead it has a false floor with storage underneath (Millenium Falcon smuggler spec). That space alone is bigger than the boot in my Polo. I tend do use that space for bags etc so the boot looks empty if you were to look in but the proper boot above it will eg take my daughter's bike without faffing taking wheels off.

Why would it have a seats down figure then ?

But the overall 2558 vs. 1750 is unchanged. Unless anyone thinks they can argue it's a negligible difference ?

The seats down figure sounds plausible. Discos are essentially a commercial vehicle with the seats flat, they're square sided and have a higher roof.

These figures look more reasonable and show that with the boot in its normal configuration the X5 boot is larger.

Disco: 543/2,558l
X5: 620/1,750l

That still doesn't sound right.

600 litres is not very much. 100cm x 100cm x 60cm. I bet that's just the volume below the load cover. The X5 has very little space above it due to the sloping rear window while the Disco has loads because it's a big box. So the apparent similarity is a quirk of the measurement method; the Disco actually has a lot more usable space and this shows up in the big difference in the 1750 / 2588 gross volumes.

Also - apparently my F10 has a 520 litre boot. There's no way a Disco is only 23 litres bigger

No idea about the X5, but those numbers are correct for the Disco. See P63 of teh brochure

They are square-boxy and BiG inside.

Come to think of it, how big is your Landcruiser ? I'm not really a fan of Jap stuff tbh, so I doubt I'd buy one, but it would interesting to compare.

The seats up figures for estates are generally measured to the underside of the load cover, so no higher than the window line. Is there a load cover in a Disco or X5? Even if there isn't, I bet those are just to the window line.

Also, I bet you would struggle to get a 4ft wide piece of wood in the Disco so 100cm wide sounds about right, and 100cm deep to the back of the seats (assuming in 5-seat configuration). 2ft height to the window line? Yeah, it's bang on.

I wouldn't even know where to look mate. It's about yay high and wide-ish. Does that help? 😂

Edit - Cargo volume (cu. ft.) behind front/middle/rear seats 90.8/39.2/20.8

90.8 ft3 in litres = 2,571 litres. Same as the Disco by the looks.

But still much smaller than an X5 according to the ste-culator

Can you take the seats out completely in the Disco and Land Cruiser, but not the X5?

Not in the disco. They fold and the bases drop down to to give a huge flat space.

Back seats yes, middle seats fold flat and forward in the Toyota.

Hmm, once you start browsing Autotrader it's surprising how much car you can get in the shape of a big silver 4x4 for <£10k.

FFRR or RRS with the TDV8 or supercharged petrol V8. Makes the Disco look a bit puny. I've never had a V8 diesel or a supercharged anything.

V10 Touareg. I've never had a V10.

Cayenne 4.5 S. Would make a nice pair with the 996.

Cayenne Turbo... that should be more of a money pit than anything those paupers at LR can offer :D

And as a less common (and very cheap) choice, I strangely like the look of the mid-noughties Nissan Patrol, in a Tonka Toy way.
