Just read a post on the Lotus forum from a guy considering buying an Evora ‘cos he’s fed up with the promised delivery date for his new Griff moving ever backwards. Had a deposit down for 3.5yrs apparently.

As the concept seemed straightforward and the names invoked not completely unheard of (GME+Cosworth) it makes you wonder what shenanigans are happening behind the scenes to drag the whole thing out so badly.

It looks and sounds dreadful, and it seems the factory tendering issue was a bit of a shambles.

I think I’d be looking elsewhere by this point too.

That one mule they've built so far must be exquisite.

Bloke mentioned above - deposit down for 4yrs now and still no sign of a car - so bought this instead. They certainly aren’t rushing it to market.....

Are they honestly saying that as successful entrepreneurs and businessmen (surely you'd have to be for anyone to give you any money at all) they looked at a buy in from a government FFS and didn't think 'I wonder if this will come with some BS red tape shit we ought to avoid?'

They sound fucking naive and incompetent.

I think we should have this reminder on every page - at the very least.

"Soon-to-fail car company can't bring underwhelming car to market as quick as they said they would"

Meh.

I'm inclined to agree.

That Autocar article is brilliant though. These are my two favourite snippets:

"...construction work will take around six months once the tender is awarded..."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Someone hasn't been involved in any project management before.

"As for the development of the car, Edgar said 75% of the parts had now been sourced for the Griffith"

80/20 rule anyone ???

All of this. It’s just embarrassing.

Interesting that the 5.0 V8 is putting out 500bhp with NA though. Is it used in anything else in this state of tune?

So even if the factory had been completed on time they wouldn’t have had 25% of the parts

😃

It’s a Cosworth fettled Ford engine though, so presumably TVR are buying it in rather than doing anything themselves?!*

* though that does seem an entirely too sensible solution for TVR.

From what ive read its a standard mustang block that cosworth did the intake for and the ECU map. But like when did that ever stop TVR saying their engine had more power than it actually did. For Neils Cerb it was only after he had it rebuilt and modified and remapped that it actually did the 420 on the dyno that TVR said it had.

Gt350 has this engine tuned and bored out to 5.2 litres with 526 bhp so same power to capacity ratio - they could probably just buy the Shelby crate engine in bulk for 5k but then the car would seem even more overpriced and less British without a “tuned by Cosworth” badge on it.

lol at £5k. our 1600cc FF engine costs £6500.

Well I’m guessing your FF engine is hand built and not mass produced at a rate of 1 a minute.
When I was looking at engine swaps last year Coyote unit was $7500 - must cost must less if someone like TVR goes to buy a few hundred.

A 400-odd HP Coyote motor is $7500. A 590hp cross-plane GT350 motor retails at $20k but available for $16k from a couple of suppliers.

Ford are pushing 480bhp out of a standard Coyote. An aftermarket intake, exhaust and map can get them to over 510bhp NA without ruining the driveability, so there’s headroom in the figures TVR are quoting.

It’s also an easy engine to supercharge or turbo so would be a good horsepower platform for the future cars they’re never going to build because they’ll go bust again.
