I've noticed a massive increase in running without front number plates round by me as well. Usually accompanied by heavy tints.

As for "how do you stop this" it's like everything else at the moment. More police, heavier fines, longer sentences.

The new one around here is people simply taking plates off. There's a guy on my street who brings back different cars all the time, and it's residents parkign only here, so he just takes the number plates off completely. No tickets and the council never come and tow them either.

Also pavement parking is another one. I think there's some kind of loophole, whereby parking wardens can only ticket a vehicle which contravenes a road marking or on-road parking restriction that is signposted. Pavement parking might be illegal, but there's no signs or road markings, so falls out of their remit, as long as you get the entire vehicle onto the pavement and away from the road.

It’s so sad that two unwitting policemen lost their lives. But five wrong uns are gone and twelve more arrested - their legacy is strong. RIP.

Quite why it took this crash to arrest 12 people I don’t know; none of the 12 were in the car.

The ‘vigils’ for the five joyriders yesterday was disgusting. Chavs wearing balaclavas, revving up quad bikes and setting of flares FFS.

My thoughts too. It took the deaths of two policeman for them to do something about it.

5 Died in Ireland a few weeks back in the same circumstances. They took out another car although thankfully, there were no fatalities in the car they hit - but still serious injuries.

As before, the penalties for small crimes should be far bigger.

People don't wake up and say they'll steal a car and drive the wrong way down a major road, they are constantly let off on the smaller things and think they can get away with it.

Pleased to see confirmation from the police that this was nothing to do with Tik tok. It was fairly obvious it was criminals trying to escape who had played plenty of GTA.

Blaming Tik tok for everything seems to be a media favourite trope now. I don't like Tik tok but if you want to blame it, at least provide some evidence - a screen grab or whatever.

There's a fairly big difference between driving like a cvnt after committing crimes while trying to evade police, and someone in the car happens to record it and post it on Snapcaht or TikTok, vs actually intentionally driving like a cvnt simply to make a video about it.

Absolutely right - here there's no evidence that the passengers were videoing at all so the media outcry about Tik tok is totally misplaced though.

The one in Ireland definitely WAS Tik Tok related so given the proximity and similarity in circumstances, it's not surprising that the media went there.

I admit I've not been following the one in Ireland but when you say it definitely is Tik tok related, what evidence is there for that? Was it being streamed live or something?

ETA: googling shows that all the fuss in the last day or so about Tik tok taking down dangerous driving videos stems from the Irish crash so clearly it's been linked. Ironic that this forum or its predecessors would have been under fire for this type of thing if Mark Tortolano or Gary Handa's videos had been shared more widely 20+ years ago.

I thought the Ireland one was crime related? Travellers as well, that use the tactic of driving on the wrong side to get the chase aborted. Two very similar situations it seemed to me.

It's hard to know how much the media furore about Tiktok is directly related to the events or is simply being allowed to spread to create a bogeyman. Tik tok isn't something I use and I suspect it is more lax about content uploaded than, say, Youtube but I think enforcement is the issue not the means of communication. People have posted themselves driving stupidly on Youtube for ages.

Whether you commit a crime first or not, driving the wrong way down a dual carriageway or motorway in order to avoid a police chase and then uploading the footage onto Tik Tok is the same.

Some of the Irish lads had previously posted videos of with the driver holding a mobile and videoing the blue lights chasing behind them etc.

The reason the TikTok thing has appeared is because one of the people in the car on the a66 had previously posted videos of himself in an Audi running from police

It seems quite illogical. The father, according to the tv news, is not implicated. So someone crashed a car into the las’s house as a warning or message but doubtless damaged the car.

More arrests today as well. Clearly a crime gang and the police are well motivated after losing two of their own.

Tik tok again seems to be a side issue.
