I take care of bins at home. Mainly 'cos I don't enjoy asking the coonsil to come and pick something up just 'cos we are unable to follow a simple schedule, or making a special trip to the dump because we missed a collection.

Apparently my interest in ensuring we follow the schedule is interpreted by family mik as "you f'kin love bin day"
That is okay to admit. I have subscribed to the Council's waste collection calendar so I can always see what is due when.

The good part of living in a tenement is that the bin men deal with all the bins and put them back.

The bad part is they noise they make on a saturday morning doing that

My neighbours have a private collection so don’t move their bins, guess they have TOP SECRET refuse?. I rely on the council and take my bins to the bottom of the drive with handles towards the road. I try and bring them back asap, but get my bins cleaned monthly and they don’t put them back as I like them 😡

ETA - I put the bins back to back, so when you open one the lid rests on the others top so doesn’t make a noise slapping the side and saves me 2 secs per operation :ugeek:

I have a refuse chute. One big glory hole in the wall by the elevator. Everything goes in, no recycling. It's bliss.

I pull it by the handle toward the street from where it sits, but I would spin it to save the scaffies a few moments.

Shirley that doesn’t save them a few moments? They need to spin it back round to “handles oot” so they can then drag it to the truck?

No, I suppose it makes little difference, but if I left it the other way round, they would have to walk round the bin to push it, rather than pull it. I haven't given teh matter a lot of thought prior to this thread.

It’s a matter of critical importance. I suggest you dedicate an hour (minimum) to this topic this evening. And let us know please.

This just came up on my instagram feed. At the time of typing it’s got just 135 likes, and it’s not an account I follow, so the algorithms are watching me…..

Comments are already quite amusing though

They're not even trying to be subtle about it anymore - it's as if the social media companies have all got together, decided screw it, everyone believes we do this so we might as well just capitalise on it now...

I mean neither is correct because the bin men either push your bin and pull your neighbour’s or vv..

I got told off by the bin man today! The garden waste was admittedly a tad overloaded, but he took the time to tell me that it wasn't allowed like that. If the lid can't close, it is too full.

Did you make sure to give him the “bin men don’t know they’re born these days, I remember when the bin men had to carry the dustbin and throw the contents in the back of the wagon, and for some reason we all threw away 20 tonnes of rubble every week” lecture?

The version of that joke I knew was that the binmen knocked on a guy's door and he took ages to answer. When asked "Where you bin?" the guy said "oh, sorry, I was just in the garden". He said "No, where's your wheelie bin?" and the guys said "ahhh, okay, I was wheelie having a wank"
