Telephone Pole

Should it be illegal for a driver to hold or tap the screen of their mobile device whilst stationary

1. Yes – the law is appropriate, and Mikey is therefore right to expose people braking said law.

2. Yes the law is appropriate, but Shirley this carries less risk than using a phone whilst in motion, and should be treated more leniently?

3. I am not sure if the law is appropriate or not. I am sitting on the fence, but not whilst holding, looking at, or tapping the screen of my phone.

4. No the law is too draconian – it should not be illegal to look at or interact with the screen of your phone when stationary. If something happens because the driver was distracted by their phone, then it should be treated as such (careless/dangerous driving?) – as it would be if they were distracted by anything else. SQUIRREL!

5. No the law is far too draconian – it should not be illegal to look at or interact with the screen of your phone WHEN STATIONARY because this carries negligible risk.

6. I can’t think of any other options. Anyone just fancy an argument?

The problem being as Jobbo says it will be a grey area and then too open to abuse.

I was quite happy being on my phone when it was legal but possibly affected my driving more than expected.

Dave!
Careless Driving would take too much admin/court time, that's why they invented FPN - were they holding a phone, yes or no.

Look what you need to process if you go Carless Driving route:

The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on

Option 6, but only because I agree with option 1 in regard to the law but I don’t agree with the police essentially sub contracting enforcement to YouTubers

This is the answer I came for. That Mikey guy can fuck off, he doesn't really care about the law, he just wants to be famous. Leave it to the police you twat.

However the law appears appropriate to me.

My plumber was sat in his van with the door open and engine running, he had his phone in his hand on loudspeaker and was placing it into a dash holder before putting on his seatbelt and driving off. A police car happened to be passing, he was fined and due to existing points he was banned for months.

Yeah, stuff like that is ridiculous, the current rules make it very easy pickings even if the actual risk is virtually zero.

Glancing at a text or picking it up to see the time or whatever while sat stationary in traffic isn’t a danger imho.

This is the problem that makes people think the law is excessive, the lack of complete common sense in the world these days
