Daniel Craig, he’s the closest to the book version.

yep, 6 ft, blue eyes, etc…
my take on bond is much like my take on Reacher. i enjoyed the Cruise Reacher film because it was the right book to make into a film, but it was not Reacher. The other guy from the series was literally perfect for the role and it made the series work so much better.
Let’s keep that with Bond. its not racist to maintain the original character. it’s a white guy with dark hair and blue eyes. Then make sure the script is kick ass.

Glad you were here to earnestly explain why Bond must always be white Rich

why not? it’s a white character - what’s the harm in it staying that way? what’s next - black panther played by Ryan Reynolds!?

Calm down mate, I don’t actually care. It’s just funny that the conversation comes up every time a new Bond is rumoured.
Cast who you like for what you like. The audience will decide if it works or not.

I’m with Rich on this one. The character should be cast as he is written, not as he can be imagined

Again, my point wasn’t that we should or shouldn’t race swap characters. It was an observation that the same tired conversation keeps happening, as it has again I guess

Thank you for using the correct pronouns for the character too.

Except it was you who brought up the race of Bond. It’s funny that it came up, because it was you who brought it up.

You know what, it was a joke about some silly discourse that happens but obviously a little too nuanced for the local pedants.
Lesson learned.

So anyway, I meant to post this a while ago but forgot.
Real Bond Guys (RBGs) will know that his car of choice was a coachbuilt Bentley called the Locomotive. Someone has built one.

Maybe I'm not as fanatical as Bond fan as some of you, but to me it doesn't really matter what race he is. I mean, surely it's been a long time since any of it was closely aligned to the books anyway? I don't think it's that sacred. For me it's all about the style and attitude of Bond, that's what makes the character. Of the current crop of actors FWIW I think Regé-Jean Page would actually be a brilliant Bond.
I was never a big fan of Craig's Bond though, which I know a lot of people were.

My original point was that the whole conversation is pretty silly but I do agree Duncs.
To take Rich’s Black Panther bait as an example. Black Panther is a character who is the tribal monarch of an insular African nation. James Bond is a spy.

I care less about Bond’s race than I do his gender. Idris Elba’s name is often put up when these conversations start and I can see him in the role.
It shouldn’t be a female though imo. If there’s space in the genre for a female agent/spy and people think it would do well then just create another franchise. No need to piggyback off an existing one.

Yep, my original post stated that i’m more bothered about the writing than the actual actor, so changing the race isn’t the biggest issue out there, but to me it’s just cringey and distracting these days when production companies force through a fundamental change to an existing character. Like they’re trying to get headlines for that rather than the quality of the film.
i don’t like Idris Elba, i think he’d be a shit bond. But i wouldn’t be at the front of the complaints queue if they had a better black actor who fitted the brief in all but having blue eyes and a tan. BUT, the film would need to be awesome to pull it off imo.

Idris Elba’s too old now anyway. You should cast a new Bond in his thirties so you get a solid decade before they start to look too old.
That was the mistake they made with Roger Moore imo.
