I don't think he's messing about here.

Watching Tyson slap him at the face off made me realise a couple of things.

1: It was even more gratifiying than I anticipated.
2: Tyson looks in better shape than I was expecting.

Bodies don’t win fights though and Father Time waits for no man so I’m sticking with a Jake Paul win. The bookies are backing him too. Mike favoured in rounds 1 and 2 but it’s all Jake Paul after that.

JP 4/6
MT 6/4
Draw 10/1

It could all be scripted though to allow them both to come out of the fight with some sort of ‘victory’…

Did you see the wide angle of Jake jumping up and standing on Tyson's his bare foot before the slap?

He did an interview where they asked about Cus D’amato and he answered nicely and then said…..”you have to leave now”

Bloody terrifying and his whole life story is incredibly interesting. If Cus hadn’t died I doubt Tyson would have ever lost a fight.

Dave!

I don't really follow this, but has Jake Paul ever fought a proper boxer his own age?

He fought Tommy Fury, he has never looked exciting.

It’s probably being biased as he is a bit of a twunt but I haven’t enjoyed watching him box at all.

It’s not really about the boxing and Paul’s nowhere near as good as his record would suggest.

It’s primarily a money making endeavour and the one good thing I’ll say about the whole thing is he’s secured decent payouts for older mma fighters who’ve been stiffed by UFC.

It’s a shame they have to risk further brain damage for it but it’s something.

It's got the same vibes, with McNeeley looking like a similarly grinning idiot as Paul

I’m usually up and around between 3 and 4 for a bit so I’ll probably check in with the show.

It's probably because I'm old, but I prefer proper athletes that have dedicated their lives to being the best at something obtain the financial rewards in their chosen sport. Even though Iron Mike is facilitating JP in doing the opposite, I do hope he reminds the world that being good at boxing is hard. Which we know it is of course, but Mike winning at 58 will demonstrate the chasm in talent.

The silliest thing I heard about it is that it'll count to their official records...

I kind of agree.

But picking up on something above - aren't most notable professional bouts all about the money? I remember them seeming that way back when I was a nipper, but these days, with the Saudi sports-washing that's going on particularly in boxing, it seems to be even more that way. Hence I'm not particularly interested in the sport these days.

I think for pro sports people it’s a combination of making a living and leaving a legacy. Like the motorsport triple crown is still a prize for some F1 drivers.

Obviously Tyson has said he’s not bothered about his legacy which is tarnished with him being a convicted rapist etc.

Paul’s legacy is never going to be anything as anyone can see he bolstered his record fighting scrubs and pensioners.

You're right of course, and there's no use crying over the fact that now the biggest fight (or match or tournament etc in another sport) and hence reward, is the one that the promoters and money men decide is the biggest due to being the most lucrative for them. As opposed to the match between the current greatest competitors.

As with so many things in the world today, it's just a popularity contest. I suppose back in the day, it was hard to know who was the most popular 'personality' and therefore things defaulted to the athlete who had earned the right to be at the top. Now we have follower numbers who decide who they want to see competing, and that could be based on best media campaign rather than best athletic performance.
