Why are you assuming the latter, rather than the former???

Once again, that is the reason why the world’s fucked

Because Dave said they don’t provide gloves. Oil is a carcinogen.

If concerns about Oil and Cancer are significant for you, then don't try to be a Diesel Engineer, or a Mechanic, or a Fuel Delivery Driver or, you know, any job where you may come into contact with Oil

But modern life allows for folks to demand the right to work in these fields and demand the right to have their concerns removed.

This. Dave could be opening up his employer to a world of pain in the decades to come.

Getting cancer shouldn't be an acceptable risk of any job.

It's a bit blurred between what is Dave and what is company.

I’m honestly amazed at attitudes like that tbh.

The corporate leaders really did their work demonising H&S.

They just need extra thin gloves, for added pleasure.

Can't believe I'm agreeing with Zed. If you want your employees to handle a hazardous substance then you provide appropriate PPE. Not rocket science is it?

Same about providing ear protection in an engine room or eye protection when when drilling or hammering.

Fair enough, I took your comment to mean you don’t use gloves at all.

You guys think getting some engine oil on your hands gives you cancer ?

WD-40 being sprayed in the air is a thousand times worse but you can go buy that in Halfords.

Now in the hell that is North Sea oil and gas, where H+S means you are more likely to be hurt working in Boots lets engine oil touch your hands.

There is being safe and there is being stupid.

They are a decent bunch and the girl is pretty keen to learn but the training g is very far removed from real life.

What job precludes the use of nitrile gloves?

I use gloves for chainblocks, when I’m really heaving on something and when I’m cleaning carbon, as no better half wants someone with sandpaper hands and black stains 😂

It’s the reason we don’t have a dishwasher, I like washing up to keep them sparkly clean.

Wiping oil on a bearing before installation, it’s very difficult to see dirt on large bearings and the last check before installing is feeling it on your hand/ fingers.

We can see when someone has installed bearings with gloves in Bangladesh as they insist on wearing them for everything.

Getting oil on your hands most days for years on end can definitely give you cancer.

If the risk of harm from a process is higher than 0% then companies should provide appropriate ppe.

We sell our time and effort to employers, not our health and life.

In that case you can’t do any mechanical job ever, there is risk in every part of the job but it can never be removed.

We have COSHH, best work practices, control of what chemicals can and can’t be onboard etc

Dave!
