All taken on 90 minutes sleep in the Heathrow Terminal 5 car park so how useful I don’t know!

What’s that colour interior called? Is the D350 the more modern SDV8? Love turbine wheels but there’s not really much on the market currently

That’s useful, thank you. Fully retracted is the kind of shape that suits me.

In the meantime I’ve bought a pair of XF headrests from eBay for very cheaply. They look like they’ll fit. If they’re here before Thursday I’ll be able to give them a good test run.

I didn’t realise it was Lear either, until spotting the markings on the inside of the mouldings the other day.

The cream leather is Ivory. I hugely prefer the light coloured interiors in the facelift versions. For some reason the black seats end up looking more baggy and worn than the lighter ones which is the opposite of what you’d think. The facelift seats are much comfier than the pre-facelift.

D350 is the Ingenium straight six that is carried over into all the current models rather than the V8. I haven’t driven one but I’ve been in my brother’s defender which has that engine in the D300 state of tune. Audibly it sounded less refined to me than the V8 (and arguably the 3.0 SDV6 that it supersedes) but they don’t suffer with snapped cranks (!) like the older V6s so nothing necessarily to put you off. If you’re not worried about fuel economy then I’d still have the V8.

Not sure if anyone elaborated on the Vogue v Vogue SE. I believe Vogue SE got better leather as standard, meridian audio and larger wheels but the main addition was soft close doors which are a bit of a must have for me if you’ve got wife/girlfriend/kids getting in and out. If I were you I’d ensure I got an SE and not the base Vogue. You don’t really need the Autobiography though.

Turbine wheels more common on the pre-facelift. Most facelift models don’t come with them because although I think they were still an option they are associated with the pre-facelift and I imagine most owners didn’t want to effectively ‘back-date’.

Thanks GG. Yes, having looked at a few cars, the black leather certainly makes the car feel older and more tired. Useful info about the wheels and models too!

One plan currently is to keep this car indefinitely, (bit like Harry/Clarkson have done with previous model), as I think it’s the right time to find a car that has been maintained to a high standard, has reputable FSH and no services missed etc, plus they aren’t hybrid (to help with longevity).

Having a robust engine will obviously be beneficial, and late year models should be better sorted electrically, but this leaves me thinking about fuel options now; I guess biodiesel is a thing, but whether it’ll be classed as more polluting than petrol and so limited to certain areas ie not towns in the future probably needs some consideration.

Given that they were using an old green screen AS400 and couldn't slow production down for long enough to update it, I think your freakish dimensions and startling posture was quite a long way off their priority list.

Jag XF headrest fitted. Better, but still not quite what I want. They were only £16 each though so I don’t mind ripping them apart or “modifying” with a bit of brute force.

Strangely the new headrests have no tilt adjustment. I went to the garage and applied some persuasion. My wife was unaware of my secret vice.

The leather itself is a perfect match. The only tiny difference is that the seats & original headrests have one contrasting line of stitching in black. I might go over with a sharpie to see if I can replicate it, sort of.

FWIW the new headrests don’t seem to be dismantle-able. It looks like the posts & frame are put into an empty leather cover and (presumably) held in a mould, then foam is injected to fill it. The foam is stuck to everything inside.

Looks like a huge improvement!

The two main types of leather used in Jags and LR products has matched for years in the lighter colours - the brands just name them differently

Maybe only the XFR/RS Headrests like mine have the tilt function then

Mine tilt/move quite a bit.
