On the ferry there was a young guy, early twenties tops, with a blue X308/51 plate XJR. It was a bit tired, but still looked good. Definitely not just for giffers.

Dropping in to comment on this one. Aged 24 or thereabouts I bought an XJ40 Daimler Double Six and drove all over Europe in it. I mention the age because everybody else commented on the ‘old man car’ nonsense at the time. All I saw was a 6 litre V12. And by ‘eck that was an epic engine.

At that point, other than an S-Class nothing covered ground with the ease of a Jaguar/Daimler. Time meant nothing. It also pains me to see their new direction and I’ve thought for a while it may very well prove to be their end.

Everybody is talking about EVs falling away in terms of sales, yet Jaguar is taking a year out to then come back focused in a market which is causing other folks the heebie jeebies.

Makes absolutely no sense as a pure consumer.

There are too types of Jag buyers.

Old boys buying their last car and young guys who want something with a decent engine and didn’t want to buy German.

Not everyone can be correct in life. I'd have another XJ8 in a heartbeat even tho it's a really bad idea.

Reading some of your comments, I now realise a number of younger people round here must have sports jackets with leather elbow patches and smoke a pipe.

I remember when this were all fields, far as eye could see. You could go out Saturday night fer 8 pints, get a bag of chips and have change fer bus fair 'ome.

i don’t really want one, but i can see the appeal of older jags with the right spec. I don’t really lump modern stuff like XFs F types or F Paces in the same category as older XJs - which have reached that point where they are no longer driven by liverpudlian club owners and are now mainly very old people or males in their 20/30s.
