A couple of things to remember :-
I'm (just) old enough to remember when people used to refer to Japanese cars as "Jap Crap". Look what happened next.
Remember when Kia weren't a thing and Hyundai made weird Cortina-based cars? Look at them now.
Another 5 to 10 years and a Chinese manufacturer (possibly BYD) will have a significant share of the market.
