If you are in a pub*, try dropping a picked egg into a bag of cheese and onion crisps and squashing it all up together, it's brilliant and goes amazingly with a nice ale.

*does not work outside pubs

This sounds like something more suited to doing in a private place

How do you eat this? Do you ask the staff for a fork or spoon to eat it out of the packet with?

Do you have a special chair with a seatbelt ?

Do you eat it while staring directly into the eyes of other patrons?

Do you have a dribble bib?

Your enthusiasm for it makes me want to try it even though I know I’ll not like it 😂

Dave!

I've also been highly fascinated by this since Will's post. :geek:

I would like, no, I need to know the answer to Mito's question, but I have additional questions around the mechanics of this, as I can only ever recall pickled eggs for sale in chippies - never in pubs :?: On this basis, I am pondering how I leave the pub - which needs to be close to a chippy - in order to procure a pickled egg. Will they even sell me a single pickled egg? Is there an age (or other) restriction, and how TF would they even package a single picked egg? So so many questions rolling around my head... :?

And the entire subject keeps driving my brain to this. Which simply isn't helping at all....... :(

The decline of picked egg availability in the humble pub is a stark reminder of the decline in the range of experiences available in our hostelries and metaphor for the decay of British society in general. Seek however, and ye shall find. Usually a CAMRA membership is a reasonable sign but less and less these days.

Either upend the bag so clumps of the mix fall into your mouth or just reach in and claw some out (wiping hand on napkin, underside of table or trousers depending on the level of establishment).

PS I was worried that I was weird but I have done some googling and it isn't just me. Some people seem to recommend leaving the egg whole and just coating it in crisps.

Good lord.

Local availability of both pickled eggs and crisps certainly removes some of my queries, and although it does seem a bit weird, I am mindful of Will's initial caveat : and this was clearly not filmed in a pub. :geek:

Don't knock it until you try it, and ideally don't try it until you are on your 3rd pint or so.
