I haven't yet. I may try them but my worry is how good they would be to deal with in the event of a claim.
When having to make a theft claim is a realistic prospect it then makes me uncomfortable dealing with someone that I've not heard of before.
that boat has sailed...
Not really - I've got three options 1) sell it and get back the £30 odd thousand, 2) pay up for the massive premium with a reputable insurer I've heard of 3) gamble with an unknown and risk them quibbling and refusing a claim if the time comes.
Option one seems like the most sensible option to me, unless I can come up with any other genius ideas...

How long do you think before the evidence that the new security updates are effective gets relayed to the insurance companies and Range Rover rates drop back to the norm for luxury SUVs?
Might be worth renewing for another year. I don’t know, depends, if you’re looking at another SUV like a Cayenne which may then depreciate a crap load as well and still cost a few grand to insure you may be best off riding this Titanic to the depths.

If anyone wants a nice FFRR for £35k that was £65k two years ago let me know.
Isn't that the normal depreciation on them? £20k and you can hold our yer 'and.

I think it will take a long time to rectify personally.
A good indication is that my first one was nicked in July '21 - a full year later in July '22 when I renewed the insurance it was essentially the same at £1,800 p.a. which means that despite an epidemic of thefts going on for many months, it took a long time to feed through into premiums. I would expect it will take as long or more to come back down the other side. Not really viable to pay those silly premiums for such a long time.
I could be a bit more creative and transfer to my Dad's business and let him keep and insure it in Yorkshire for a couple of years and then bring it back when things normalise but I don't know whether I've got that level of love for it versus taking the cash.
Its really a bit of a dilemma (trilemma?) as X5s and Cayennes are also silly -£3.5k p.a. insurance now, but
anything premium (even a 10 year old A6/5 Series/E Class estate) in London will be thick end of £2k so if its not something really nice query if worth having it at all (certainly as a third car!).

interesting that you presumably count Adrian Flux as a reputable insurer worth approaching for a quote when they're just broker too?
SS are a broker too, my insurance is actually with Ageas, who are Defaqto 5 star rated and come up on the comparison sites too. It's just that I'm paying a third of the cost because the broker sorted it.

I'm obviously aware that Adrian Flux are a broker but I hadn't realise SafelyInsured were a broker (though the name should have given that away

). That does change things and I may give them a ring. I'm not clear that they would have access to a wider pool of underwriters than someone like Adrian Flux and would magically come up with someone much more competitive but now's probably the time for leaving no stone unturned...
The world has gone mad when my only ask is that it comes in at under £4,000 p.a. for someone in their late thirties with 9+ years remaining NCB (even after the theft) and it looks to be unacheivable...

SafelyInsured are formerly Sky Insurance (not BSkyB sky, for clarity), whom Alex88 (used to?) work for on here, so they're pretty legit. I'm also with them and I've not had to deal with them for a claim, but they've been perfectly fine for renewals etc.
They used to specialise in covering modified cars at pretty good prices which infers a decent talent in sniffing out decent policies so they're probably at least worth a ring.

and a c.£50k car claim and a car that's notoriously easy to steal!
Adrian flux's best quote was £2k, SS was £530.
I've just remembered - my e46 M3 was insured by Sky when it was driven into and written off. The claim on that went "ok".
I remember they used some management company for the whole thing and most of it was on an app. It was ok with the standard info but a bit shit when you didn't have the right info (I didn't have the other cars number plate, mainly because I was strapped to a board in the back of an ambulance rather than writing down details! )
I got the full amount I wanted though.

The worry it may be stolen.
Having to deal with LR dealers.
The LR product itself which is wonderful but their week has more Fridays in.
It’s just not worth it, get rid and find something that isn’t so flawed. I don’t like the idea of thieves dictating what you up but with all the other pain in the arse elements, it’s silly.
Dave!

Really helpful context - thanks, Rich. Will definitely give them a try before I throw in the towel.
Bah - just tried filling in their online form and under claims the maximum value you can input is 9999 otherwise it give an 'invalid amount' error message

will have to call them in the morning...

Out of interest I just ran a quote for myself on one of those and the cheapest couple of prices were about £1800. So for the price out here in the sticks to now be at the same level London was just over a year ago, it's obviously a nation-wide issue on these, not just in high risk areas. (for comparison my Ferrari parked on the drive is ~£450, a quarter of a Range Rover...)

Yep that's right. The Adrian Flux person I spoke to said nationwide the average amount you'd be looking at would be £3,000 p.a.
I'll recommend to my wife that a 360 is the sensible replacement
Seriously though, being married does cramp your style (well, clearly not yours so much). All I can think of is how this would be a fun opportunity to get a Quattroporte GTS / AM V8 / 928 S2 / Alfa Giulia QF etc. etc. etc....

OK so I think I've taken this as far as reasonably possible - SafelyInsured used an underwriter for Range Rovers but they've since pulled out the market and they don't have anyone else. They referred my on to Sterling Insurance but they weren't able to quote either.
Just need to get rid of it now I think.

Blimey - probably best to punt on now, it'll only get worse as more people come to renew and find themselves in similar positions. What a monumental fuck up (by Range Rover)...

Yes exactly - mission offload will commence straight after Xmas. Thing is it would be much better to PX against something else and avoid the nightmare of trying to shift it in a private sale.

Is this all JLR or just range rover?

Insurers are increasingly become allergic to anything with a LR badge as well apparently. But also ridiculous across the board for any premium SUV.
No-one in London is going to be getting a quote cheaper than the thick end of £3k for an X5/Cayenne, etc.
In some ways its a shame we don't live in the US as I'm sure this would be within the realm of class action lawsuit over there!

I just ran a quote for a cheap Disco 4 and it was c. £400 so in London it would only a about £2k ? You could slum it in a slightly older car for a year or two ?
And a £10k car won't depreciate by £30k/year....
