I would 100% forget to take this off, I'd probably leave a note on the driver's seat for myself.

Have a good holiday Rich. You can always check Google Streetview to see if your car is still there.

I won’t steal it. Broccers may get drunk and shit on your windscreen though

Dumb. It's just a car. You have insurance. DWAI.

Have you ever dealt with a car theft claim out of interest? Trust me "forget about it - its got insurance" is not a fun position to be in. Without stating what I'd think to be the obvious 1) you have to cross your fingers and hope they pay out and don't try and wriggle out of it, otherwise you're typically on the hook to pay off any the balance of any finance, in full, within a very short time period and 2) if and when they pay out it may be insufficient to buy back what you had. Both causes of massive anxiety and stress and much better to secure what you have for the sake of a few hundred quid for a good immobilser and tracker if its a high value + desirable car...

Agreed that a little bit of time and money on preventative measures is a whole bunch easier than dealing with a total loss claim, the hassle of lisasing with insurers, negotiating a reasonable payout, and the costs of the excess, loss of the year's premium, as well as increased premium next year. Plus the inconvenience. I'd happily spend a day or two securing a car, rather than dealing with all that again.

Will anyone get suspicious if my compact suddenly gains some M2 wide arches and engine? 🤔

If they try to steal it and leave it immobile on your drive, it's hardly a better position to be in.

Not sure why you'd have to pay the finance off in full within an accelerated timescale; you're only obliged to pay the usual finance payments surely? Or is that an unregulated deal?

Our neighbour with an M car gets another neighbour to park behind him on his drive whenever he's away. I think he puts a bright yellow steering wheel lock on it as well.

As someone who buys undesirable cars, it's a plus point that I don't have to deal with stuff like this.

And bike locking my wheels wouldn't exactly be my first obvious choice for securing my car either tbh  but hey, if it works....

Back in 2012 my BMW 335i Sport was broken into twice in one week and that taught me everything I needed to know about preventing break-ins.

Did your learnings involve a D-lock?

Perhaps the D-lock will become as associated with your name as the mullet and shortz

I use a D-lock to lock the drivers seat of our motorhome facing backwards when it's left anywhere not totally secure.

At the height of the joyriding years I owned an Escort RS Turbo. Theft was rife, especially at race circuits which we often visited. More often than not there would be a few of us with RS Fords, Cosworths etc and some of the owners took to chaining their cars together with motorbike locks :D

I concur with the honorable Gentleman from dat dere London! Total PITA.

I would still prefer the cars to be gone, rather than either given up with smashed bits on the drive, or recovered before the pay out!
