I get more annoyed with people flashing their BRIGHTNESS OF A SUPERNOVA high power LED main beams on modern cars, they're legit bright enough to be dangerous at the wrong angle.

Looks like I'm in a minority then lol. I simply don't understand why it's worth thanking someone for doing something that's completely unnecessary. It's not courteous in the same way as holding a door open, also they're not giving over right of way, or letting me get ahead, nor am I using their side of the road, nor am I in a big vehicle where I might appreciate the extra space etc. They're simply stopping for absolutely no reason. I just don't get it.

Its purely for selfish reasons, if you thank people when they wait (whether they are being stupid/need to actually wait or not) then next time they're in a similar situation they'll wait again because they know they'll get the appreciation.

Everyone has been in a situation where they've made an effort to do something that makes others lives easier and no one acknowledged it. The reaction is simple: " well I won't fucking do that again."

In some cases those gaps where, whilst there is space for two cars, are a bit tight and make you wince as the other driver squeezes past at a rate of knots. So these people may be making your life that little bit more relaxing.

I totally understand the concept, and in general I'm a polite person, however it feels like thanking someone for being inefficient. It hurts my brain to do it.

I'd give the person in Gavs situation a wave too....as they might not be confident in their spatial awareness and otherwise might get a bit too close or even knock wing mirrors if they judge it badly.

I remember driving down from university to go for an interview at a London law firm - one of my first experiences of driving around London. I was navigating round Aldwych when I got within 4 feet of a cyclist meandering around in the middle of three lanes, who then proceeded to pull alongside and spit at me through the open window. Nuff said I think.
