Why would you want to see them head on? Plenty of places up the hill you can see them up one straight, round a corner and up the next unless Lord March has got really slack with the groundskeeping in the last decade.
Head on you see the car squirm under braking, twitch, direction change, drive past.
You don’t have much clear line of sight now, too many grandstands/restaurants/scaffolding gantries for cameramen/massive TV screens. There’s a few select spots but they’re all pretty packed by 9am with amateur photographers/YouTubers etc with massive cameras and tripods.
Was great being able to see them at full chat, but last time we were there ( many many years ago ) it was great just hanging around in the infield bit of the first couple of corners watching a big screen while being able to hear the cars doing around you.

Wtf was that shootout? Over an hour late and they seem to have had barely any cars?
And why was the McMurtry not allowed to participate?
That was piss poor.

Another image of the jag wheel - including disc & calliper.
Calliper bolt faiked and the calliper then locked on the wheel & ripped it off

Feels a bit odd that people are still bleating on about the what if’s of this. Surprised none of the other stuff gets mentioned.

Possibly ‘cos this made it fully into the spectating area.

Probably because the Jag not hitting the grass, cowping over, rolling over the bales and following the wheel into the crowd was about 50% luck.
Which is a bit too close to the '55 Le Mans disaster for comfort for many, I imagine. Especially given that the barriers Goodwood uses are basically little better than what they had at Le Mans back then.

Looks more like the driveshaft sheered and the force pulled the calliper along with it, callipers mounts being weaker than its body or the disk.
Potential to be very nasty, but impossible to entirely protect against. Sure you could put catch fencing everywhere, around every circuit in the country, but a freak incident could still see a rogue wheel or bit of car end up in the crowd.
