The rumours going round about Dan Wootton have added an interesting dimension to this.
What are those then?
From Popbitch this week - and they don't ever name names unless they've got something solid.
The Sun have been having a hell of a time trying to retrofit a public interest to their Huw Edwards story, pulling up any old incident of workplace misconduct they can find to pin on him now that the police are saying there's no evidence of any crime.
It's a shame they've put themselves in this position because if all they wanted was a story about a news broadcaster who has made life uncomfortable for colleagues by sending them "inappropriate messages", they have a really juicy one much closer to home. It will involve asking some difficult questions, but they have an excellent starting lead.
They should still have all of Dan Wootton's old HR files stashed away somewhere – so maybe they could start there? There's bullying allegations, NDAs - even a few pay-offs they could get the guys in finance to dredge back up. While they're doing that, they could look into why Wootton kept getting promoted while some of those who lodged complaints got sidelined.
Former colleagues seem perfectly willing to chat – but hey. We shouldn't be doing their job for them. Just start pulling at the thread. See what you find...

He's a general piece of shit, he was closely involved in the press hounding of Caroline Flack and the hit pieces on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
He's apparently become too toxic for even GB News, he hasn't been on all week
between June 2008 and 2018, Wootton – who is gay – posed as a fictitious showbusiness agent called “Martin Branning” to offer sums of up to £30,000 “tax free” to his targets, many of whom were heterosexual men.
Among them are a very senior executive at Rupert Murdoch’s News UK alongside at least six other staff at The Sun newspaper

OT but also OT, I only started using Twitter last year to follow Ukraine news, a lot of the people on there with good info are American (not really their fault) Democrats (seems reasonable), and in addition to Ukraine they also post a lot of stuff about American politics and the right-wing stuff there is absolutely nuts. And totally aligned with Kremlin propaganda. Wootton totally fits that mould.
"Accuse the other side of that which you are guilty"
And Wootton has been hated in the industry for years or even decades. It was a game at the sun to deliberately misspell his name 'Wooton' and see how long before he noticed because he'd get ridiculously angry about it

Probably a dumb question (as I don't know much about either story) but is the crux of this that Wootton is the guy behind/entrapped Huw Edwards?
Or is it more a double standards thing where they've both basically done the same thing but Edwards has been vilified for it and no one's really saying anything about Wootton having done the same kind if thing?

Wootton has done far worse, but has spent his entire career making a living from taking people down. Like with Max Clifford, when karma hits its going to get juicy.

Bit of a follow up on this, although sadly not about Dan Wootton
Remember kids, never send or receive anything in online messaging that you wouldn't be confident defending in court...because you might have to.
Former BBC News presenter Huw Edwards has been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between 2020 and 2022 and relate to 37 images that were shared on a WhatsApp chat, according to the Metropolitan Police.
The broadcaster was arrested last November and charged last month, the force revealed on Monday.
He is due to appear in court in London on Wednesday.
