Ihave to get him a new high-capacity toner cartridge approx every 3 months. I doubt your usage would be quite as high though, Neil, and the toner cartridges are only about £35 delivered. Seems to be reliable anyway.
I saw a clip on YouTube on how to reset the toner and just make it keep going for a number of Brother printers. Have been doing that with ours and probably getting about three times the life out of them before they actually start banding and printing like shit. Must just be trigger happy 'toner is empty' warnings.

Brother colour laser here too. Got fed up buying a shit inkjet every few years. Toners last thousands of pages, a full set for about 6000 pages worth is about £60 for generics. Monos are buttons to run. It just sits on the network, goes to deep sleep after half an hour, never fails to wake up when you send it something.

I’ve had an Epsom EcoTank for around 18 months, filled the tanks when it arrived and they are all still 3/4 full. Will happily sit for a while and print fine when asked, no blocked jets etc.

Having now got our second Canon MF832CDW, I’m glad I had our IT people to set it up. It works really well; great printing and scanning, cost effective but definitely more for office volumes than home. Still recommended because printing is almost less important than scanning these days and it has a really good duplex ADF; that’s the sort of thing domestic machines don’t tend to do so well.

I fucking hate printers. However, the HP Colour LaserJet I bought a few years ago has been quietly efficient and zero hassle in any respect. The toners are pricey mind but I don't print that much and the low capacity free ones that came with it lasted over 2 years. Good scanning setup too.

The band Rage Against the Machine were never clear which machine they meant. I reckon it was a printer.
