See also: N-Rated tyres.

I've always bought Shell screenwash for reasons my brain hasn't shared with the greater me. I've no idea how much it costs.

Are things OK Jobbo? Do we need to start a GoFundMe?
You settle up, I'll go get the Jag.

Yep, only problems with gunge in the tank I’ve had have been on old cars that have spent a lot of time sitting around.

Most cars built in the last 30 years will have a filter on the pump which is more likely to block than getting bits in the nozzles.

I just buy whatever I happen to spot when I think supplies are getting low.

Simon wrote: Wed Nov 30, 2022 9:17 am Yeah, I don't think the issue with nozzles getting blocked is about any one brand, it's about swapping between the two different 'types' of screenwash, and when they mix they turn to a bit of jelly, so block pipes. Wash through the bottle and pumps with tap water first and you should be fine.
As it's never happened to us in around 16 years' worth of BMW ownership over 3 cars, I'm calling bobbins on it. I jsut get whatever is around wherever I am when I know I need some more and never had any problems. In fact I've never had this problem in any of the cars I've ever owned and I've never known anyone to have the issue.

I always assumed it was just one of those rumours that circulates for ever more.
I've done a lot of miles in a few BMW's using loads of screen wash of many varieties and not once have I suffered a bunged up nozzle.

Dry your eyes mate.

Probably better to rinse that out with clean water first.

Thanks Mito. That's just saved me a load of searching as I have just used the last of my 20l drum of screen wash.

If you could that would be great. £150m or so ought to see me right.

I had to clean the gunk out of the filters on the BMW, which was a rather icky job.

I only use screenwash around winter because otherwise plain water seems to do the job just fine.

Which reminds me. Must buy screenwash.

Plain water doesn’t remove insect residue from your screen very well.

I've always used Jaguar screenwash, no idea who makes it but it seems decent and I have a lifetime supply in my garage so I won't be changing anytime soon

Never freezes and smells good.

To add something; do people in hard water areas use tap water?

I have used distilled water in the past when using concentrated screen wash, but now tend to just buy ready mix which I’d assume has less crusty bits in than our chalk filtered tap water.

We're in a hard water area. I always use tap water, though obviously mixed with screenwash concentrate. What else would you use?

I'm not driving far enough or fast enough at the moment for that to be an issue ;)
