Her husband insisted that - on the passing of her father, and the subsequent end to centuries of "Hills of Gairbraid", that the area was to be "in all times called the town of MaryHill" - which then became a Glasgow suburb.
Yes the etymology of place names is another fascinating subject. Always amazes me that even those which seem to have no obvious derivation, such as "Dulwich" come from old Saxon such as "Dilwihs" meaning the fields where the dill grows.
