15 minute cities
Re: 15 minute cities
Been out for dinner with my parents and sister, who lives in Oxford. She's unaware of this ridic scheme, they have another one currently tho already that forces you not to drive to town. I can understand for a tourist heavy venue why it's a benefit but to penalise residents, hmm.
For the rest of us tho, raid on your pocket.

Re: 15 minute cities
Last night there was a local community event about 15 minute cities. They're obviously taking a different track here as they were focussing on LTNs, which are fine by me as my road is a rat run, and building cycle paths on the Romford Road which is one of the most dangerous roads in the country with loads of prostitutes (not dangerous prostitutes - dangerous driving, plus prostitutes
) and also my main route into London on the bike. Both would be massive wins for me.

I have no issue with making places that are suitable better to walk or cycle around. Many are not, especially outside London.Gavster wrote: Thu Nov 17, 2022 7:49 am Last night there was a local community event about 15 minute cities. I seem to be reading more and more about these. How is it possible to stop them?
Re: 15 minute cities
Kind of ironic this is being proposed in Oxford which is overrun with buses - maybe have fewer of those and see how you get on?Broccers wrote: Wed Nov 16, 2022 1:45 pm Reckon this will be a go er?

My brain has linked these two facts together and won’t let them go.Gavster wrote: Thu Nov 17, 2022 7:49 am Romford Road which is one of the roads in the country with loads of prostitutes, and also my main route into London on the bike.

Disgusting ideas which just remove peoples freedom.
Maybe incentivise small shops instead or make things easier to drive or walk too first.
Penalising first is a nasty tactic which just seems to affect the people who deserve it the least.
Dave!

I mentioned before that I was (unwittingly) a member of one of Tony Blair's thinktanks on transportation waaaaay back. It was very clear that there was no intent to invest in public transport in order to make it more efficient/effective and therefore more attractive - just lots of plans to make driving more painful/expensive in order to force people towards public transport. I was also disgusted.V8Granite wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 12:28 pm Disgusting ideas which just remove peoples freedom.

I was also in a group with a couple of giggly young ladies (I'd guess 18/19) who were stating that public transport was the best because you met some great characters on the night bus home, and could have a right laugh - you didn't get this opportunity if you took a taxi! I was also disgusted that their idiotic views held as much weight as mine.

Kids always know best. Especially brainwashed students who think being a gender neutral carrot eating cyclist is right on. Until they have no proper job or their business can't deliver anything at a profit because they were wrong.mik wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 1:45 pmI mentioned before that I was (unwittingly) a member of one of Tony Blair's thinktanks on transportation waaaaay back. Re: 15 minute cities
My brain is wondering how? Are you seeing prostitutes on bikes? Or do you see me cycle-touring London's sex worker hotspots?

FWIW, I rarely see them, they come out at night after I've gone to bed. If I ever go out really early, like 4 or 5am, they're often still around.

Re: 15 minute cities
We've gone live with the ulez in Sheffield today. How to kill a city centre.
Apparently if you applied for the grant to replace your vehicle before today you're exempt until they get down the massive backlog.
Only a matter of time before they add cars to the list of paying vehicles.
