15 minute cities

Been out for dinner with my parents and sister, who lives in Oxford. She's unaware of this ridic scheme, they have another one currently tho already that forces you not to drive to town. I can understand for a tourist heavy venue why it's a benefit but to penalise residents, hmm.

For the rest of us tho, raid on your pocket.

Last night there was a local community event about 15 minute cities. They're obviously taking a different track here as they were focussing on LTNs, which are fine by me as my road is a rat run, and building cycle paths on the Romford Road which is one of the most dangerous roads in the country with loads of prostitutes (not dangerous prostitutes - dangerous driving, plus prostitutes ) and also my main route into London on the bike. Both would be massive wins for me.

I have no issue with making places that are suitable better to walk or cycle around. Many are not, especially outside London.

Kind of ironic this is being proposed in Oxford which is overrun with buses - maybe have fewer of those and see how you get on?

I mentioned before that I was (unwittingly) a member of one of Tony Blair's thinktanks on transportation waaaaay back. It was very clear that there was no intent to invest in public transport in order to make it more efficient/effective and therefore more attractive - just lots of plans to make driving more painful/expensive in order to force people towards public transport. I was also disgusted.

I was also in a group with a couple of giggly young ladies (I'd guess 18/19) who were stating that public transport was the best because you met some great characters on the night bus home, and could have a right laugh - you didn't get this opportunity if you took a taxi! I was also disgusted that their idiotic views held as much weight as mine.

My brain is wondering how? Are you seeing prostitutes on bikes? Or do you see me cycle-touring London's sex worker hotspots?

FWIW, I rarely see them, they come out at night after I've gone to bed. If I ever go out really early, like 4 or 5am, they're often still around.

Apparently if you applied for the grant to replace your vehicle before today you're exempt until they get down the massive backlog.

Only a matter of time before they add cars to the list of paying vehicles.
