What do you all use for boring cars? Realised the rear tyres on the focus must be the original continental eco contact’s from 2019 when the car was first put in the road, and the sidewalls are showing a decent amount of cracking. Fronts it came with aren’t anything special, some triangles or some other cheap ones, not bothered changing as it drove decently still, but would like something better all round if the backs need to go

I get the cheapest mid/premium brand. Last time for me it was a pair of continentals on offer making them similar price as Avon/Falken etc.

If boring car but driven in not boring way - decent tyres.
If boring car generally driven in boring way - pretty much the same as NGRhodes. I'm happy to use mid-range Kumho etc.
Just not ditchfinders.
Similar issue with my mum's 2016 Jazz. I noticed her rear tyres were cracking between the blocks. Tyres still have about 5mm tread remaining (!) but date-stamp is 2015. Moving her onto Vredstein x-climates.

If you're keeping the car long enough to wear a set out, getting decent rubber can be very cost effective because it tends to last longer. But it's the sort of info you simply can't get easily so it's guesswork.

Same. I usually like Falken / Toyo. Wife's MINI has some Kumhos that have been fine too.

Same. I usually like Falken / Toyo. Wife's MINI has some Kumhos that have been fine too.
I put kumhos on the Mini. Absolutely fine.

I recommended Michelin crossclimates for my folks - especially as they're in a RWD Smart during the winter months.
Still not sure what to fit to the Up. Rarely gets driven enthusiasticly so was considering all-weather ones as well....

Looks like decent tyres then. A 1l focus not be fast but the chassis is pretty decent

I've put Uniroyal Rainsports on few cars and both my daughters Mito and GT86 have used them as they are a summer tyre with a wet weather bias which suits our climate.
They are a Continental sub brand so reassuring R&D as well but typically priced 20%+ less than Conti's.

Of course the 911 has come on N rated P Zeros so need to read into the deal with those and warranties.
Porsche do winter sets of wheels and tyres so that might be the first thing I need to look at by the end of next month I guess. We now live up a stupidly steep single track road, so definitely need to look at winter tyres if I don't want to garage it.

I think from viewing that video I'll get a set of those Pirelli CF3s for the Golf, seems like a decent all round tyre for our climate.

I have Nexen all seasons on the mito
Hankook ventus on the compaq
Yokohama on the alfasud
Goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 6 (I think) on the merc
Triangle fronts and Toyo suv rear on the x5
They’re all ok. I wouldn’t buy Triangles, but they were on it when I bought it and not worn out and I’m not chasing laptimes and steering feel.

I get the best I can on each car purely for the better stopping distance. Stopping 2 metres sooner could be the difference between a crash and an oopsie.

Do you base that on wet performance or dry performance? I presume one tyre might be the best on one but not the other. Let's hope your near-oopsie occurs on your chosen condition metric.

I test it daily by driving like an absolute Wallybean.
Aslong as it doesn’t hit 10 degrees on a rainy Wednesday, it should all work out ok.
