Dad's been brought out of the coma and is awake. He's in a lot of pain and discomfort, so the next few days will be difficult for him. If I test negative tomorrow I can stop by the hospital on the way to the airport.

Thought a closing update would be in order.
Three weeks ago we were wondering if we were about to start planning a funeral. He's being discharged to home tomorrow until his leg has healed enough for the skin transplant.
As an added bonus it seems to have humbled him a lot and given him pause for thought. He has talked openly about trying to repair the relationship with my sister and seems much more willing to listen.
If he sticks with it that could be a happy outcome.
