IIRC the 250 is hardwarewise the same as the 250, so it should be possible to change the CCF to make it think its a 250?

On the M140i it made no discernible difference whether it was supermarket 95 octane or V-power. Not noticable in performance or economy.

Well they've told me the Ingenium ones tune better on it and they've always been open and realistic with me in the past, I'll put a couple of tanks of Tesco 99 through it as it's the nearest one and see.

If its under JLR warranty, be aware once it's mapped it throws a unclearable DTC and they are very picky with warranty claims!

How much is it, Zonda?

My local decently thought of tuner had the ingenium engines rated as quite a lot lower than what they said so you might notice even more of a difference than you thought once it's done.

My local decently thought of tuner had the ingenium engines rated as quite a lot lower than what they said so you might notice even more of a difference than you thought once it's done.

V power has a superior cleaning pack than anything else out of a pump if maintaining power long-term is a consideration.

This reminds me, I will cut open the fuel filter on the defender (which is run on whatever diesel there is) when I replace it this year and then do the same on the X5 (which is only filled with V Power) to see if the X5 filter really is as clean as a virgin’s soul.

Sainsbury's SUL feels significantly smoother in the Up GTi that any of the other fuels, VPower included. Apparently Sainsbury's is BP Ultimate...if so it's quite a bit cheaper.

4C feels the same across all SUL, but tends to have VPower as it's more convenient.

All you will notice is differences in quality of the fuel in terms of contaminants.

That’s the wrong way round, the X5 should in theory be dirtier as it will clean the lines to the filter.

So if the defender filter is dirty it could mean the fuel is dirty or the lines are cleaned by the fuel. The same can be said for the X5.

I use tesco99 in anything which asks for super and it’s fine.

Shell might technically be ‘better’ but whether it makes any difference in the real world on something reasonably well looked after is debatable.

I always carry a bottle of octane booster when I drive pop north. Just in case… (for the Evora - the (not supercharged) VXR8 would happily run anything).

The Monaro used to be fine on anything, until it had the heads/cams changed. I can't actually remember how I managed on the NC500, I think I didn't have as much of a range issue as Paul. The again the Monaro wasn't an 800bhp supercharged monster!

Take care that if they map it aggressively on any 'Super' then it will likely rule out being able to run the car on 95/10% stuff if you ever needed to. Unless they can provide switchable maps or sommat.

I would second this. A mate had his supercharged VXR8 mapped for super and it was a nightmare doing the NC500 as he was constantly concerned about where he could get good fuel from. He ended up taking a couple of jerry cans as a back up. It didn't help that he was only averaging 16-18mpg....!

The alternative would be octane booster. I can recommend the Royal Purple Max Boost.
TVR's mapped on super and it will still run on 95, it's down on power and won't rev out but for daily driving it's perfectly fine. I'll only ever put it in if I can't get any other fuel but the odd tank won't hurt it.
I used to run the WRX (and that was aggressively mapped and modded) on SUL and just kept a bottle of millers octane boost in the boot in case I needed to use regular unleaded. I ran it without a couple of time and as long as you stay off hard boost it was fine.
V-power and Tesco Momentum always produced the best results in the WRX, BP the most flat. I use generally Esso and it was middling but both cars mapped on it as it's what in the village.

The Mini is the same - definitely more flat on BP than Shell/Tesco.
