What would you buy again and why?
Re: What would you buy again and why?
Id have another Golf R.
Re: What would you buy again and why?
The wife had a phase 1 SR in white, when she had a small accident we put a later SR/GTE bumper and grill and colour coded the grill. She also had Astra GTE white wheels on it. Out of her previous cars the Nova is the one she like to own again.DaveE wrote: Wed May 11, 2022 5:56 pmA 306 Rallye was my first choice tooJonMad wrote: Wed May 11, 2022 5:02 pm Given my love of my Rallye, I nearly bought a 306 GTi-6 a couple of years ago for a couple of grand but was distracted at work just as the auction ended and missed out.
A Skoda Estelle would be a laugh as well now. Or maybe just shit and I'd flog it again instantly.
Followed by the Nova SR I once owned (white with some very subtle motorsport graphics) a bit like this 'un

The 200SX is one car I liked but never owned, a mate had a really nice grey one but never really gelled with it (his driving ability is not good though) and his apathy rubbed off on to me. I think I missed out on a bit of a gem.
Seeing the Pug love here it's obvious that they can get under the skin, we test drove a 205 1.6GTI for the wife but it left us a bit cold, with the newer (1987 vs 1993) Metro GTi 16v impressing more. After that we didn't really consider any others as by that time we knew lots of people with Japanese cars and were into that scene more.
I should have said in the thread title this is in addition to anything you currently own or are considering, it's the one nostalgia kick that you can have in you garage alongside your current and future fleet. Neither the Chimaera or L200 would be replaced by an MG Maestro, but if I could get another garage to keep it in I'd have another.
Re: What would you buy again and why?
I'd have another DC2, they're still great to drive, and with prices what they are, it'll hold value(or better).
Not really bothered about the rest. The idea of an FD would be tempting if fuel prices weren't at this level.

I'd have another 406 V6, that was a great car, great engine, handling, ride, seats, it was a great all-rounder.
I'd have a Cinquecento again if they weren't all seemingly rotten, but it wouldn't get much use nowadays wither so I'm not sure it would be worth it.

Another Boxster S please, in fact I may well do that…
Also it would be interesting to revisit the Focus ST170. Mine was a dog that I got on the cheap and it would have been interesting to have lavished some more care and attention on it to make it a bit more chuckable and fun.

Not sure, think I might find my old 205 GTi too stiff for the state of current roads, would a side grade to a T16 be in the rules
?

Would be interesting to get a much newer Boxster S to see how they stack up now against the older ones. There's definitely something absolutely spot-on about the Boxster, especially if it had a bit more power.
I still find myself looking at M5 Tourings...

As a family car, I don’t think I’ve found anything better than the X5 M50d; 7 seats/massive boot, enough performance, frugal enough..
I’m probably past needing one now though..

Re: What would you buy again and why?
I've just said on another thread that I've always liked X5s and there's an M50 Competition-or-something over the road which really does look the business.IanF wrote: Mon May 23, 2022 11:39 am As a family car, I don’t think I’ve found anything better than the X5 M50d; 7 seats/massive boot, enough performance, frugal enough..

I’d have another GP beach buggy but that would be disrespectful to the people who treat my skin cancer…
One reason why is that a girl in a bikini walked up and said I love your car. That’s never happened since!

I thought this would end with "and then I married her"PaulJ wrote: Mon May 23, 2022 3:51 pm I’d have another GP beach buggy but that would be disrespectful to the people who treat my skin cancer…

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: What would you buy again and why?
No, but my partner Alison has stuck around for 38 years, partly, I’m sure because she’s a petrolhead too.Mito Man wrote: Mon May 23, 2022 3:57 pmI thought this would end with "and then I married her"PaulJ wrote: Mon May 23, 2022 3:51 pm I’d have another GP beach buggy but that would be disrespectful to the people who treat my skin cancer…

Re: What would you buy again and why?
I have fond memories of the GTi-6 but I suspect driving one today would be a disappointment unless it was in time warp condition. Mine was starting to have issues at 3 years old!

Definitely the mk1 Focus. Fun to hustle and no bother at all in 100,000 miles and 5 years.

Great shout. I got one as my first new company car in Jan 2000 and it was awesome. You could LOO or 4 wheel drift at will. I did 72000 miles in 18 months in mine and loved it. 9 sets of front tyres and 5 sets of rears during that time caused me a lot of aggravation with our fleet dept.V8Granite wrote: Tue May 24, 2022 6:00 am Definitely the mk1 Focus. Re: What would you buy again and why?
Those mk1 Focus were so much damn fun. I can't remember how many of them I had in the end... a 2.0 with crazy fun traction/stability control; ST170; two Mk RS; a 2.0 shitbox estate...V8Granite wrote: Tue May 24, 2022 6:00 am Definitely the mk1 Focus.
