Practical fast cars simply don't excite me enough to have as a one size fits all solution. I would love one, but never at the expense of a proper sports car. So if I have to choose one to pour money into (which I do at the moment), it's always going to be the sports car.

TBH I suspect if I had space I'd probably buy another sports car before I bought something that will do it all if funds permitted. It makes no sense really, I'd love to own some other fun cars, but wouldn't be able to sell the Lotus. I'd do fuck all miles in them too, I can't say that it's logical.

Having said that, neither is having a nice daily. I do a lot of miles at the minute and it's just dreary shit, would be even more frustrating if I was sat in a beast.

That. Works for me... :geek:

I get it - drive a slow car most of the time and your fast car will feel more special when you drive it.

It just doesn't work for me that's all. I rarely go out for a drive purely for pleasure, so take the opportunities when they come up. At the moment, I've been working pretty late so the drive home after the traffic has died down has become fucking great. I'd be pissed off if I was in a crappy car at that point. Then my weekends consist of family stuff or mountain biking - where something like an Elise would be useless.

Obviously everyone's circumstances are different.
This is where im going with the Porsche idea. My son has moved to a residential school in fife so were back and forwards to fife a reasonable amount now. Motorways in the Elise are not enjoyable but something like a boxster \ cayman (Would need to be a 3.4) would make that a lot better but still be engaging enough (probably) to take a drive and do an occasional track day.

Dunno - i do also reserve the right to do fuck all about any of this until the winter where the elise gets SORN.

Oh I don’t know, when the road clears and you overtake a few blocks of cars while screaming “rat run peasant mother truckers” as you roar past can feel good at times.

I suspect E63s, M5 owners and RS6 folk are positively fizzing with excitement at the possibility of a clear piece of horizon ahead.

Honestly even the 330 is plenty enough for that, the rare chances I get.

Option 1 - Buying a shitter to keep the milage off the Elise. Something wearing a towbar would also be very handy for racecar stuff.

I ran a Boxster S as my daily for a year and a bit before I got the Jag. Trouble free, although cruise would have been nice. I probably put 20,000 miles on it in the 2 years I had it. Held its price well in spite of this, although admittedly it was low mileage to start with.

Go S if you can. The gen 2 987s are better than gen 1 (I've not seen anything nice said about the gen 1 2.7L engine in particular). The Caymans get a few more horses over the Boxsters with the same engines iirc.

So... option 2.
