Re: JWST Launches Today
15 years to build and a few months in space and it's already getting smashed up in the harsh conditions of Outer Space!

Re: JWST Launches Today
Well I don't know about that picture, but I did see that JWST suffered a micrometeoroid impact, but this type of thing was anticipated and not an issue.

Looking back in time 13 billion years...
I suppose some of those galaxies no longer exist physically, other than light travelling through the cosmos...
The clarity difference between it and Hubble is amazing...

We're going to learn so many fascinating things with this telescope, probably no point in reading any books involving astronomy or physics for a while as they'll be out of date.![]()

Re: JWST Launches Today
IIRC the redder the light, the older the galaxy so it's quite possible a few of those pictured aren't around anymore.dinny_g wrote: Tue Jul 12, 2022 9:39 am Looking back in time 13 billion years...

Re: JWST Launches Today
The official twitter thread explains the image a bit. The most impressive thing is that the picture took less than a day whereas the same from Hubble took weeks.
How about not having a sig at all?

Ah, so they've upgraded the Earth dome to have better lights in the star-field then. Wake up sheeple!
